Mother elephant and calf try to attack residents near Coimbatore

A mother elephant and calf strayed into a residential area in Coimbatore, causing panic among residents. The elephants were filmed attempting to attack residents before being chased back into the reserve forest by forest officials. Residents were advised to stay indoors at night due to the proximity to the forest.

COIMBATORE: A mother wild elephant and it's calf strayed into the residential area at Thiruvalluvar Nagar at Kanuvai in Coimbatore district and tried to attack the residents on Wednesday night.
The video of the elephant attempting to attack residents were widely spread on social media on Thursday and it went viral.
The female elephant and it's calf strayed out of the reserve forest in search of food including rice, five flour and it entered the residential area of Thiruvalluvar Nagar on Wednesday night.

The residents had gone to their open terrace to watch the elephant movements and take photos and videos of the wild animals.
Some of the residents standing inside the main entrance gate of their houses to see the elephants. The mother elephant tried to attack a family by pushing the main gate of a house and the family members escaped from the attack and entered inside the house.
The elephant calf also chased a man in the residential area. The frontline staff of the forest department from Coimbatore forest range reached the spot and managed to chase the elephant into the reserve forest.

Meanwhile the frontline staff visited the residential area on Thursday morning and requested the people not to venture out from their houses during night hours as the area is located close to the reserve forest and there were chances of wildlife movements.
They also asked the people to inform them if they notice wild elephants or any other wild animal movements in the locality.
