NEW DELHI: AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday again launched an attack on BJP, accusing its govt in Haryana of "deliberately poisoning the Yamuna".
Campaigning for AAP candidate Surinder Pal Singh Bitoo in Timarpur, Kejriwal said, "BJP has crossed all limits of dirty politics. In Delhi, we receive drinking water from Haryana's Yamuna and UP's Ganga. Haryana govt deliberately poisoned our water by adding ammonia."
"If that contaminated water reached people's homes, many would have fallen sick, some could have even died. Fortunately, we detected it in time and diverted the water. We did not let it reach your homes," he claimed.
Kejriwal further said, "Politics should not stoop so low. We are not enemies of each other. Haryana is part of our country, Delhi is part of our country, BJP is part of our country, Congress is part of our country, and AAP is part of our country. Why are you trying to harm each other?"
"Until I am here, do not worry — I will never send poisoned water to your homes under any circumstances," he added.
Hitting back, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva asked Kejriwal to "stop behaving like a film villain and spreading canards".
"I challenge Kejriwal to set a time to come with me and collect samples of the Yamuna, first at its entry point in Delhi, another near Nigambodh Ghat, third at ITO and the fourth at Okhla. This will make it clear as to who is responsible for poisoning the river," he said.
Earlier, Kejriwal addressed a public meeting in Jahangirpuri in support of AAP's Ajesh Yadav, the sitting MLA from Badli constituency. Seeing several houses in the area donning the Congress flag, he said, "Why are you wasting your votes on Congress? Congress is not going to win, it will only cut votes. Congress and BJP have made a deal internally. They are fighting the elections together."
He added, "For me, there is no BJP, no Congress, no AAP. For me, all the two crore people of Delhi are my own."
Appealing to JJ cluster dwellers, the AAP chief claimed BJP would demolish their homes if it came to power.
"Do not mistakenly vote for BJP. They have already planned to demolish all the jhuggis in Delhi within a year if they come to power. The land on which your slums are built is worth billions of rupees. They want to hand it over to builders and their billionaire friends like they did in Mumbai's Dharavi. If you press the lotus button, they will throw you out on the streets," he claimed.
Noting that there were sewer issues in several areas, the former CM said, "I have learned that several sewer lines in Delhi have become outdated. These people (BJP) got sewer lines choked, threw boulders in gutters to block them. Within one month of coming to power, we will clean this up."
