NEW DELHI: Several shopping malls in New Delhi received bomb threat emails on Tuesday, said Delhi Police.
Among the places that received these threats were Chanakya Mall, Select CityWalk, Ambience Mall, DLF, Cine Polis, Pacific Mall, Primus Hospital, and Unity Group. The emails warned that explosives would go off in a few hours.
Mall authorities swiftly alerted the Delhi Police upon discovering the mails.
Consequently, the police initiated an investigation, deploying Bomb Disposal Squads and fire tenders to the respective locations. Despite the alarming nature of the threats, no bombs have been detected so far.
According to a senior police officer, the initial investigation suggests a recurring pattern in these threatening emails, noting that none of them included specific datelines. The officer mentioned, "The mail has been sent to many malls and other places. An investigation is currently underway."
Further investigations are ongoing to identify the sender and the motive behind these threats. Additional details are awaited as law enforcement continues to delve into the matter.
This incident follows a similar bomb threat received on August 17 at Ambience Mall in Gurugram, where no suspicious items were found after an extensive search. Gurugram Police noted that the mall's administration received an email about a bomb, leading to an immediate deployment of various
security teams.
ACP Vikas Kaushik from Gurugram Police provided a detailed account: "The administration of Ambience Mall received an email which says that a bomb has been planted in the mall. When we received the information, all the teams including the bomb detection and disposal squad, dog squad, and SWAT team came to the spot. We started sanitising the mall. Till now, we haven't found anything suspicious thing in the mall. Our cyber teams are tracking the sender of the email. We got the information at 10 in the morning."
Gurugram police have reiterated that anyone found spreading false information or misleading authorities regarding bomb threats through social media or email will face legal consequences.
Earlier this month, on August 2, a school in Delhi's Greater Kailash area also received a similar bomb threat via email. The email claimed a bomb had been planted in the school, which led to a thorough investigation. Despite the extensive search, no bomb was found. Legal action was initiated in response to this scare.
Authorities continue to take these threats seriously and urge the public to remain vigilant while maintaining a sense of calm.
