Cong MP hurt in attack by Kaimur villagers
Sasaram: Congress MP Manoj Kumar and three others were injured in a violent clash over the parking of school buses outside a residential school run by the lawmaker's family at Nathupur village under the Kudra police station in Kaimur district on Thursday. While the scuffle left the MP with head injuries, three villagers, including retired DSP Akhileshwar Chaubey, were also hurt. The school property was damaged during the incident.
The violence broke out when a victory procession celebrating the PACS election results encountered buses parked near the school, allegedly obstructing the road. A dispute ensued when a bus driver allegedly slapped a villager, who retaliated. Soon, tempers flared and a full-blown confrontation started.
Bharati, the MP's brother, claimed the procession members severely beat two bus drivers. "When the MP and school staff stepped out to look into the matter, villagers, armed with lathis, attacked them. The mob also threw stones at the school building and vandalised our property," he said, adding that police later rescued them.
Kaimur SP Hare Krishna Shukla and other senior officials safely escorted the MP to Mohania subdivisional hospital, where he received two stitches on his head before being referred to Patna Medical College Hospital. The police also ensured the safe dispersal of students.
Meanwhile, retired DSP Chaubey accused the MP's bodyguards and associates of assaulting him and other villagers. Enraged locals gheraoed the school and staged a protest demanding action against the MP and his supporters. The situation was brought under control only after intervention by the SP and Mohania SDPO.
Two FIRs have been lodged – one by Chaubey against the Sasaram MP, his brother, bodyguards and supporters, and another by Bharati against Chaubey and others under the SC/ST Act and several sections of BNS. One person has been taken into custody.
Villagers alleged they had repeatedly complained to local authorities about "illegal parking of school buses and land encroachment by the MP's family, but to no avail." Tension continues in the area and the SP was camping there to monitor the situation. Notably, the MP's sister-in-law is the chairperson of the Rohtas district board.
