Unrequited love: Youth kills classmate, dies by suicide

Sasaram: A youth killed his classmate over alleged unrequited love before taking his own life in Takiya under the jurisdiction of the Sasaram Town police station on Thursday evening.
Senior police officers, including Rohtas SP Roshan Kumar, reached the spot and a forensic team was called in to investigate. According to Sasaram SDPO Dileep Kumar, both victims were found dead inside a locked room, which police had to force open. The deceased were identified as Shweta Kumari (18) and Shivam Kumar (19), both students preparing for their Intermediate examinations beginning Feb 1.
Investigations revealed that the two had earlier lived in the same private lodge while studying. However, due to alleged harassment by Shivam, Shweta moved to a rented room with her two brothers in the same locality. Despite this, Shivam continued to trouble her.
On Thursday night, when Shweta was alone, Shivam forcibly entered, locked the door from inside and after a heated argument, shot her in the neck at close range, killing her instantly. He then turned the weapon on himself.
Hearing gunshots, locals alerted the police, who broke down the door and found both lying in a pool of blood. A country-made pistol was recovered from the spot.
