Heavy rains in Delhi-NCR trigger traffic snarls, waterlogging

A red alert was issued in Delhi-NCR after heavy rainfall lashed the national capital on Wednesday evening.

The heavy rainfall led to waterlogging and traffic jams in various parts of Delhi and its surrounding areas. The traffic police have issued alerts regarding the affected routes and advised people to plan their journeys accordingly. (Photo: PTI)

The IMD has urged people to remain indoors, close windows and doors and refrain from unnecessary travel.

Heavy rainfall lashed Janpath, Pant Marg, Kashmere Gate, AIIMS, Mansingh Road, RK Puram, Patel Chowk, and other areas of Delhi.

"Apart from ensuring minimum inconvenience to people in general, they are advised to specifically address issues at sites prone to waterlogging, including coaching centres," Delhi Lieutenant Governor said in his post on X.

According to the weather office, the National Flash Flood Guidance Bulletin has included Delhi in its list of 'areas of concern.'

112.5 mm of rainfall was recorded in one hour in Pragati Maidan observatory in central Delhi, according to IMD's Automatic Weather Station (AWS) network. Salwan Station in Mayur Vihar, East Delhi, recorded 119.0 mm of rainfall from 8:30 am to 8:30 pm today, while the NCMRWF station in Noida Sector 62, Gautam Buddha Nagar, UP, observed 118.5 mm of rainfall, said IMD. According to the IMD, the rainy weather is expected to continue till August 5.
