Over the years CM Punk has given some really interesting matches in the
WWE. From going head to head against stalwarts, to delivering one of the most infamous promos in the world, the Second City Saint has left quite an impression on the world of professional wrestling.
During his career, CM Punk has earned quite a lot of accolades, and has faced wrestling royalty, but some of those matches cannot be found on social media.
Interestingly enough, WWE recently uploaded one of his rarest matches where he faced off against the Road Warriors.
CM Punk and Doug Delicious vs Road Warriors comes out of the WWE Vault
The
match in question was a dark match and was held on Velocity on May 13, 2003. Although Punk wasn’t a part of WWE back then, he was placed on the banned list for putting his opponent through a hammerlock DDT the previous night.
Before facing Punk and Doug Delicious, the Road Warriors in their Legion of Doom avatar, went up against the Goldust and Booker T. The Road Warriors won the match after hitting Delicious with the Doomsday Device, the match got a huge reaction from the crowd, which was expected.
However, that was the only time that Punk got to share the ring with the iconic duo, because he was signed to the company later on in 2005, when the Road Warriors weren’t on regular programming anymore. It’s a match that the Second City Saint feels is an important milestone in his career.
Punk has had a massive growth in his personal career ever since he’s officially been a part of the WWE and has become one of the most recognizable individuals in the world of professional wrestling. After his departure from the AEW, he’s left a massive impression in WWE, returning after over 10 years.
He’s scheduled to face Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam with
Seth Rollins being the guest referee. While it’s hard to predict what the outcome of the match will be, it’s bound to open up into different storyline angles that the WWE Creative could explore in the coming months.
