Kash Patel, the US President Donald Trump's Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) pick is receiving praise on social media for showing respect to his parents at his confirmation hearing. The Indian-origin lawyer recently appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee to answer questions on the proposed changes to the bureau. Born to Gujarati parents, Patel in the now viral video, is seen touching his parents' feet as a sign of respect during the hearing.
Sharing the video, an X user wrote “This is ❤️ - surely this is for the first time that anyone inside that Congressional hearing chamber touched anyone’s feet to pay his/her respects… notice how @Kash_Patel touched feet of his parents as soon as he entered for his confirmation hearing! Sanskaar!”.
Kash Patel greets parents with Jai Shri Krishna
In another video, Patel can be seen greeting Jai Shri Krishna to his family while introducing them in his opening remarks. He said, “I'd like to welcome my father, Pramod, and my mother, Anjana, who are sitting here today. They travelled here from India. My sister, Nisha, is also here. She also travelled across the oceans just to be with me. It means the world that you guys are here. Jai Shri Krishna.”
"I wouldn't be here today without their guidance, their unwavering support, and their relentless love. When President Trump informed me of his intention to nominate me as the director of the FBI, I was deeply honoured," he added.
"My mother is originally from Tanzania. She studied in India, as did my dad and they were married there. They would later emigrate to New York, where I was born, and we were raised in a household of my father’s seven siblings, their spouses, and at least half a dozen children," Patel said.
"That's the only way we knew how to do things at the time, in the '70s and '80s, the Indian way, but we would soon learn the American way," he stated.
