Airtel has strongly denied any hacking of their security system, amid reports that data of 375 million customers is on sale on the dark web. As per a post making rounds on the internet, a hacker claims to have stolen data, including phone number, email, address and Aadhaar number of airtel users.
“There has been an ongoing report alleging that Airtel customer data has been compromised. This is nothing short of a desperate attempt to tarnish Airtel’s reputation by vested interests,” an Airtel spokesperson said in a statement.“We have done a thorough investigation and can confirm that there has been no breach whatsoever from Airtel systems,” the spokesperson added.

What the hacker posted on Dark Web

As per the post shared on X, a hacker with the alias ‘xenZen’ attempted to sell a database on the Dark Web.
“Today, I'm putting my latest DB of over 375 million Airtel India customers details including phone, email, address, parents name, gov ID (Aadhaar, etc.) updated till June 2024 up for sale,” the hacker said, noting that Airtel’s servers were breached in June 2024.
The database that is claimed to have been on sale comprises details of over 37.5 crore Airtel India customers such as their mobile number, date of birth, father’s name, Aadhaar ID, email ID, and more. It is reported to have been up for sale for $50,000 (Rs 41 lakh) to be paid in cryptocurrency.The hacker xenZen also claims to have a “successful sale” of India Ministry of External Affairs Diplomatic Passport Holders data leak.”
