About us

Families in Action is dedicated to addressing many of the social ills facing our society by strengthening individuals and their families. We believe that supporting everyday people to manage life’s challenges and meet their full potential can contribute positively to human/interpersonal relationship, an important first step in alleviating many of the social ills plaguing our nation. We aim to provide services which are affordable, accessible and socially relevant; and is constantly expanding our offerings to meet the changing cultural/social landscape. The services currently provided by Families in Action are designed to help clients address issues of drug and other addictions, relationship and family conflicts, work-related stresses, parenting challenges and youth education.     Over 2 weeks between September 16th -26th, @familiesinactiontt in partnership with @iomtrinidadandtobago @iomtrinidadandtobago hosted capacity-building workshops on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support for the @mfcagovtt Ministry of Foreign & Caricom Affairs. This initiative was funded by the Migration Multi-Partner Trust Fund under the Access, Support, and Coordination Programme. A hybrid model was used across local, regional, and international offices of the Ministry with sixty-eight (68) participants benefitting from topics such as Understanding Mental Health and Self-Care, Psychological First Aid, Trauma-Informed Care, and Managing Difficult Clients. These workshops aimed to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge to identify and support colleagues and members of the public who require Mental Health support and/or Psychological First Aid. #familiesinaction #iomtt #mentalhealth #capacitybuilding

    On August 18th, Families in Action in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) -POS celebrated the graduation of twenty-three (23) migrants from 2 Cohorts under the Vocational Skills Training Programme (VST) funded by the Migration Multi-Partner Trust Fund under the Access, Support and Coordination Programme. This group represented two of three cohorts who underwent a six-month skills development programme conducted between 2022 to 2024. Overall, the project saw 38 participants successfully completing the program that was designed to strengthen the employability and micro-entrepreneurship skills of vulnerable migrants. The project included the following components: - Mental Health and Psychological support -Empowerment and Coaching Sessions -Basic English language learning - Vocational Skills Training in Cosmetology (Nail Artistry, Make-up Artistry, Waxing, and Skincare) - Micro-entrepreneurship for Cottage industries In attendance and support of the project's closing graduation were Norma Ottley, Vice Chair from Families in Action’s Board of Directors, Tinestia Haynes, Case Coordinator -International Organization for Migration (IOM) -POS, Ken Ramdhan Project Lead- Parenting Education and Special Projects – Families in Action, Farouk Mohammed, Labour Inspector- Ministry of Labour, Dane – Marie Marshall- Deputy Director of the Counter-Trafficking Unit, Andreina Briceño Ventura-Brown - Director, La Casita Hispanic Cultural Centre, Dheoraj Sookdeo, Acting Manager, St. Jude’s Home for Girls and Andre Dillion- Creative Director, Drama Making a Difference (DMAD).
