Did you know? According to the World Economic Forum's 2024 Global Risks Report, #AI-related risks are gaining significant attention, with "AI-generated misinformation or disinformation" ranking second only to extreme weather. 🌍 As generative AI continues to advance, it's crucial to detect image authenticity and establish robust security mechanisms. In this week's AICS #TechTalk, AICS Scientific Advisor and NYCU Professor Wei-Chen Chiu spoke on "Redteaming Text-to-Image Models for Cybersecurity & Turning Vision-Language Models for Deepfake Detection." Currently, most existing models struggle to identify fake/generated images, with success rates around 60% or lower. Professor Chiu led the lab to explore new methods leveraging VLMs and minimizing variables through prompt engineering, and improved success rates to 93%.✨ Regarding cybersecurity, inspired by the "shield and spear paradox," the lab adopted an active #redteaming approach. This week, the AICS #TechTalk featured an exciting presentation on "Music AI 🎵" by Professor Yi-Hsuan Yang from the Department of Electrical Engineering at National Taiwan University.    Unlike text, music comprises multiple complex attributes such as pitch, duration, instrument, and velocity; these complexities bring numerous challenges and opportunities for music generation.    With the development of audio waveform encoders/decoders and LMs for music, the field of #musicAI has advanced significantly, from the "ground-breaking" four-bar, five-track MIDI music generation back in 2018 to generating diverse instrument arrangements from text prompts. 🚀   During the Q&A session, Professor Yang discussed the intricacies of human emotions, such as nostalgia and bittersweet feelings, which are hard to fit into the four quadrants of Happy, Angry, Sad, and Relaxing. He also emphasized that the excellence of models relies more on feedback from domain experts than just standardized metrics. For example, the innovative experiment in collaboration with renowned Taiwanese artist Sandee Chan demonstrated the huge potential of AI in music creation.    In conclusion, Professor Yang envisions a future with powerful unified models for music and audio. "Combining 'Mona Lisa' with 'Starry Night' to produce a Starry Night-style Mona Lisa, does that count as #GenAI?"  "Airplanes were originally designed to mimic the flight of birds, so why don't modern airplanes utilize wing flapping?" 🕊️    Professor Hsuan-Tien Lin from National Taiwan University led an engaging AICS Tech Talk. Regarding GenAI, Professor Lin believed we are experiencing a "Wright Brothers moment." ✈️ While everyone pondered how to define whether a model is detailed enough, human-like enough, or qualifies as #generativeAI, the professor pointed out that perhaps these questions are not the most crucial.    The aim of constructing airplanes isn't solely to mimic the bird flight but rather to securely transport passengers to their destinations via engineering design. Similarly, the efficacy of a machine learning model is not determined by how closely it replicates neural networks. Instead, we should prioritize achieving high-quality, reliable, and practical results with minimal data. 🎯    Thank you, Professor Lin, for delivering such a rich and informative lecture!    During the discussion, the professor mentioned a former colleague, an expert in computer vision, who happens to be our next speaker. Any guesses on who it might be? 😎 

In this week's AICS #TechTalk, we had the honor of hosting Distinguished Professor Hsin-Hsi Chen from National Taiwan University's Department of CSIE, who shared valuable insights into #GenAI and #LLM applications. Before the emergence of #ChatGPT in late 2022, Professor Chen had devoted decades to #NLP. He thoroughly revamped all his presentations to lead an exploration into the secrets within the black box of LLM. 🔍📚 The discussion included:  - Determining the parameters that qualify a "large" language model and assessing what scale is considered sufficiently large.  - Examining the performance, trade-offs, issues, and solutions of "smaller" LLMs.  - Addressing numeral-aware language understanding, order/token sensitivity, and fluctuations of popular LLMs, along with potential solutions. Moreover, as Director of the Center of Intelligent Healthcare at National Taiwan University Hospital, Professor Chen delved into model training, generative zero-shot learning, and real-world applications in the medical domain. 🏥 We extend our appreciation to Professor Chen for his enlightening sharing and the enthusiastic participation of over two hundred attendees. 👏  Looking forward to the next seminar! #ASUS #AICS #TechTalk #Innovation #AI #NLP
