Our research team at CNR-ISAC #LameziaTerme is proud to announce the publication of the new research study D'Amico et al. 2024b, aimed at an unprecedented characterization of weekly patterns in the #atmospheric concentration of key #GHGs and #pollutants. Developed under project #ITINERIS, this study is the most detailed effort of this kind ever performed at the WMO/GAW LMT observation site in #Calabria, Southern #Italy. It is also, to our knowledge, the most detailed assessment of this kind in the entire Italian peninsula. Why would a study focus on weekly patterns? The reason is quite simple: anthropogenic #emissions, unlike natural emissions, are more likely to be subject to weekly patterns due to different anthropic activities being carried out over the course of a standard week. Daily, seasonal, and yearly patterns are subject to a combination of anthropic and natural cycles, while the week is a pure anthropic construct. This study goes a step further - in addition to our assessments, in this paper we also propose a new parameter named #WDWO (Weighed Distribution of Weekly Outbreaks). WDWO is aimed at researchers, policy makers and regulators willing to estimate weekly cycles of any compound/pollutant and their effects.
