  • 🌳 What a success from our community-led forest conservation initiatives! Thanks to your support, we've seen a remarkable increase in local wildlife populations, including the arrival of our newest resident, Beswe, a female chimp! 🦁💚 Beswe made her journey from outside Gombe, likely through the Gombe-Burundi corridor, to join our vibrant Mitumba community. This milestone highlights the power of collective action in conserving our environment and protecting vital habitats. Join us on this incredible journey toward a sustainable future! • When you empower a woman, you uplift an entire community. At JGI Tanzania , through Landscape Conservation in Western Tanzania project (LCWT), we are committed to transforming lives by uplifting women and girls across Western Tanzania With unwavering dedication to community empowerment, we’ve equipped nearly 4,400 women with the tools they need to shape their own futures—opening doors to land ownership, health advocacy, and leadership roles in schools and community spaces. But our impact goes further. We’re fostering lasting change by involving both men and women in family planning and igniting women’s entrepreneurship through community conservation banks. Many of these banks are led by women, offering low-interest loans that empower sustainable businesses and pave the way for financial independence. By deeply integrating into communities and collaborating with political and religious leaders, we are pushing gender equality forward while staying true to our mission of conserving and protecting the region’s natural resources. Together, we’re not just envisioning a brighter, more sustainable future—we’re creating it! 💪🌍 #WomenEmpowerment #CommunityStrength #JGITanzania #SustainableDevelopment #HopeThroughAction USAID

  • Leadership in Conservation and Community Empowerment in Tanzania! At the Jane Goodall Institute Tanzania, we are proud to be a leading force in conservation and community empowerment. Our commitment to securing diverse forms of land ownership—individual, joint, and communal—and promoting sustainable livelihoods is at the heart of our mission. With invaluable support from @USAID Tanzania, we are making significant strides in our @USAID Hope Through Action project. Our recent pilot Focus Group Discussions in Mgaraganza and Rulinga villages, Kigoma, have highlighted the transformative impact of Certificates of Customary Right of Occupancies (CCROs) on women, youth, and marginalized groups. These discussions are crucial in understanding how land titles can secure livelihoods, foster economic empowerment, and promote sustainable land use. Through collaborative efforts and impactful outcomes, we are not only strengthening land rights but also reinforcing our dedication to building resilient, self-reliant communities that coexist harmoniously with nature. Our ongoing work continues to showcase our leadership in conservation and the long-term positive changes we are driving in Tanzania. Stay tuned as we share more insights and successes from our partnership with USAID Tanzania! #LeadershipInConservation #CommunityEmpowerment #SustainableDevelopment #InclusiveGrowth #JaneGoodallInstitute #USAIDTanzania #ImpactfulChange

#📢🐵 We think it’s a good time for this reminder: Chimpanzees are wild animals and should never be kept as pets or for entertainment.    You may have noticed that at the Jane Goodall Institute we always include a disclaimer on photos that show humans and wildlife in close proximity. That’s because we’ve learned a lot about how to best interact with wildlife — most importantly, that the best way to appreciate chimpanzees and other wildlife is from a distance.    That said, a significant part of our work at JGI is caring for captive chimpanzees, often rescued from the illegal wildlife trade. We make every effort to properly care for them, treat them with dignity, and improve their lives through our facilities like JGI’s Tchimpounga sanctuary.    Tchimpounga caregivers and chimpanzees DO interact, such as to provide medical care. And since infant great apes require constant care (they are often stolen from their mothers in the wild before they are rescued and brought to Tchimpounga), they have a “surrogate mother” at the sanctuary who supports them 24/7.    👇 Here are a few signs of a positive interactions in photos and film. 👉 Learn more, including how to spot red flags, here: https://lnkd.in/eXb_dHGn   🌱 Chimpanzees are in natural settings  🌱 Chimpanzees aren’t being treated as humans (some exceptions – in captivity, infant chimps are bottle fed for nourishment, and all chimpanzees are given enrichment. They easily get bored!)  🌱 Chimpanzees are in an accredited sanctuary, being cared for by trained professionals    We are incredibly grateful to all of the caretakers, including those at JGI’s Tchimpounga and Chimp Eden sanctuaries, who take the time to properly care for and improve the lives of captive chimpanzees 🫶    DISCLAIMER: *The Jane Goodall Institute does not endorse handling or close proximity to wildlife. This represents a sanctuary context with trained professionals.*    📸: Fernando Turmo    #ChimpSanity #ChimpCrazy #4EverWild #ForeverWild

  • We are excited to share the successful issuance of Certificates of Customary Right of Occupancy (CCRO) to the residents of Kigalye and Mwamgongo villages in the Kigoma Region! 🎉 These certificates provide local communities with secure land tenure, helping to mitigate land conflicts and creating opportunities for sustainable land use and conservation efforts. This achievement reflects our dedication to enhancing land rights and supporting community development. A special thank you to USAID #tanzania for your unwavering partnership! Together, we are building a brighter future for the people of Kigoma. 🌍 #LandRights #SustainableDevelopment #USAIDHopeThroughAction #USAIDTanzania

  • Collaboration is key to our achievements at the Jane Goodall Institute in Tanzania. Through the USAID Hope Through Action project, we've successfully facilitated meetings with beneficiaries, ward leaders, village councils, and assemblies to discuss the benefits and implementation of the Joint Forest Management Agreement The insights from these meetings have been invaluable in developing our modalities. #JGITanzania #Hopethroughaction #Collaboration #Tumainikwavitendo 📸 captured by @⁨Michael Pandisha⁩
