Stone Arch Bridges: A Sustainable Solution for Modern Infrastructure. Road agencies are increasingly turning to stone arch bridges as a cost-effective and eco-friendly option for river crossings. Offering a remarkable 60% reduction in construction costs and slashing carbon emissions by 75%, these bridges present a compelling alternative to traditional concrete structures. What's more, they match concrete bridges in load-bearing capacity and boast a lifespan twice as long. In collaboration with Enabel, the Stone Arch Bridge Association (SABA) has reintroduced this age-old technology in Western Tanzania. With 120 bridges completed, the results speak for themselves, confirming the anticipated savings in costs and carbon emissions. The Tanzanian Rural and Urban Roads Agency has been convinced by this evidence and is now integrating this innovative technology into their existing road development programs. Bridges to Prosperity is furthering this initiative by piloting stone arch bridges in Rwanda, with technical support from SABA.
