Today at the Tanzania Health Summit, Save the Children held a pivotal Health Forum focused on “Advancing progress towards scalable approaches to improve RMNCH-FP service use among adolescent and young first-time mothers.” We shared impactful results and lessons from the Connect Project in Kongwa and Bahi Councils, Dodoma. The panel brought together experts from national to community levels: Director of Reproductive and Child Health at the Ministry of Health-Dr. Ahmad M Makuwani, outlined Tanzania’s progress, priorities, and challenges in RMNCAH, emphasizing the importance of scalability and sustainability of community and facility-based interventions. The National Coordinator for Gender and Adolescent Health at the Ministry of Health- Gerald Kihwele , highlighted the hurdles in implementing and sustaining adolescent health programs and the essential role of government and stakeholders in scaling up evidence-based solutions. Roza Chimagai – a Community Health Worker with over 21 years of experience, shared insights on reaching young mothers with postpartum family planning (PPFP) and nutrition education, showcasing the power of culturally tailored interventions. During The Summit #ths2024 BAKWATA The forum Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships for Healthcare Quality: The Role of Faith-Based Organizations aimed to discuss the role of Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) in strengthening health service delivery in Tanzania, focusing on collaboration between government entities, Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs), and private health providers. Key topics included the structure of Tanzania’s health service delivery pyramid, the importance of community-level health initiatives, the regulatory framework for PPPs, and the challenges and potential solutions for sustainable healthcare financing. Panelists emphasized the need for innovative financing solutions and strengthened partnerships to enhance universal health coverage and address healthcare access gaps.

Over $1 billion is spent annually on training health workers globally. A critical workforce with projected global shortfall of 18 million healthcare workers by 2030, particularly in low-income regions. #AI has an enormous ability to strengthen task-shifting if AI and health workers operate as a team, and therefore make 💰 expenditure on training programs more efficient. #CHWs, community health volunteers, and other cadres that are usually prominent community-based healthcare, are able to use #BabyChecker to screen some essential pregnancy parameters after watching a 3-minute video. What #AI can do for #ultrasound scanning is reduce the need for a medical specialist for basic screening and triage, especially in the hardest-to-reach communities, where there are usually no medical specialists unless you drive to a hospital... 🕦 for a few hours 💦 if the rain allows 👀 if you have enough money 😷 if you're fit enough for the trip 😳 and if you have enough time time spend a whole day travelling and then waiting. 1 month ago at the Tanzania Health Summit in Zanzibar, Abu presented a research abstract co-conducted with a fellow researcher, Amie, on the usability of #BabyChecker in rural peripheral health units in Sierra Leone.
