USAID LPHS-Ankole & Acholi Activity/#TASO at #AIDS2024 conference This week, our team at #USAID Local Partner Health Services- Ankole and Acholi Activity implemented by #TASO had the pleasure of attending the 25th International AIDS conference (#AIDS2024) in #Munich, Germany, and presented six (06) abstracts from our work on the #PEPFAR program in the #Ankole and #Acholi sub-regions in Northern & Western Uganda. The #AIDS2024 conference brought together over 11,000 delegates comprising people living with HIV, affected by HIV, experts working on HIV programs, members of the academia, bilateral organizations, donors, and advocates to share cutting edge research aimed at ending HIV/AIDS as a global health issue. Our abstracts included; 📌Implementing an integrated community model addressing vulnerabilities affecting HIV epidemic control in Acholi.  📌Community quality improvement intervention improves uptake of PrEP among adolescent girls and young women in Acholi. 📌Sustaining prevention services among clients at substantial risk of HIV acquisition in Acholi. 📌Increasing the uptake of medical male circumcision among men over 30 in Ankole.  📌Using client audit tools to promote patient-centered care at 130 health facilities in Ankole. 📌Pre-exposure prophylaxis for special categories: A multi-faceted approach to improve PrEP uptake among pregnant and breastfeeding women in Ankole. USAID Localization roadshow  I had the opportunity to participate in the #USAID localization roadshow in Arua this week. Multiple local non-governmental organizations, academic and private sector entities including #TASO in Northern Uganda and USAID/Uganda team attended the scintillating event. The meeting provided a platform for USAID/Uganda to share information on the opportunities for local organizations, academic, and private sector entities to work with them and listen to local voices on improving future program designs in alignment with the USAID/Uganda Country Development Cooperation Strategic Plan. Furthermore, the event provided networking and experience sharing opportunities for prime award recipients of USAID grants and upcoming organizations to harness the knowledge cafe and foster collaboration. The USAID/Uganda Mission Director, Daniele Nyirandutiye provided insights on the objectives of the country’s development cooperation strategic plan (2022-2027) affirming the partnership with the Ugandan people. If you were once a student on the TASO HIV Counseling Course, or were part of TASO Training Center, Jinja or Tororo teams, then you might have met Eric Olweny. While we were still fundraising for his treatment, we received the sad news of his passing. We will remember him for his contribution towards ensuring that the communities we serve receive the best counseling services possible. May his soul rest in eternal peace.

As we share with you what we have been up to this month, please share with us how you are raising awareness about mental health and wellness at your #workplace. During this month, our teams provided services across the country in partnership with several organisations. These are some of the activities that took place. 1. TASO #Jinja held a medical camp in Budondo sponsored by BUJAGALI ENERGY LIMITED. 2. TASO #Tororo held a 3rd medical camp in Mudodo village, Nyangole sponsored by Hima Cement 3. #USAID LPHS - Ankole and Acholi Activity is implementing the #Munonye / #NongLatin / #FindTheChild #HIVTestingServices campaign spearheaded by @UgandaMinistryofHealth. 4. USAID LPHS - Ankole and Acholi Activity is working with midwives to conduct health talks on maternal re-resting for HIV, and birth preparedness at the different maternity wards. 5. USAID LPHS - Ankole and Acholi Activity is also carrying out TB screening using the mobile TB X-ray machine in several Public Health Facilities across Ankole sub-region. 6. This month the USAID LPHS - Ankole and Acholi Activity also conducted site based training for health workers in Ankole on how to manage #Cryptococcal #meningitis. This training was extended to include #Laboratory staff 7. National trainers for the Young people and Adolescents Peer Support programme (#YAPS) trained more than 20 adolescents to provide peer support at different Public Health Facilities in Ankole. Adolescents have unique challenges that can easily be addressed through #PeerSupport. #CandlelightMemorial #LightACandleWithUs In less that 24 hours (today May 16, 2024), we will be lighting candles, at all our units, in memory of all the relatives, friends, and colleagues we lost to AIDS. The national commemoration will be held in #Hoima District, under the theme: #Ending #AIDS by 2030. Keeping #Communities at the Center. As part of the campaign to reduce #AIDSRelatedDeaths to zero, this week TASO #Masindi working together with Uganda National Oil Company Limited (UNOC) and UGANDA AIDS COMMISSION provided HIV Testing Services, as well as screening and treatment for Non Communicable diseases (#NCDs) to over 200 people in the communities around Kabaale Health Center III in Hoima District, and Biiso Town Council and Buliisa Health Center IV in #Buliisa district.
