As part of the #Top100SMEs24 survey, themed 'Empowering SMEs for a Monetized Uganda: Catalyzing Growth through Innovation, Sustainability, and Market Access,' we gathered today at the Sheraton Hotel Kampala to discuss 'SMEs Capital Raising Readiness: Funding through the Capital Markets.' Our CEO, Mr. Paul Bwiso, emphasized that for SMEs to attract capital market funding, they must meet key financial, governance, and regulatory criteria. He noted that investors look for companies with audited financial records, strong corporate governance, growth-focused strategies, and a solid financial base. Paul Mbuga, partner at S&L Advocates, stressed the importance of transparent financials, a clear strategy, and compliance to gain investor trust, advising SMEs to work with financial advisors for accurate valuations.

Faisal Pyepar, BscTEL, OOH I greet you, sir. This certification has deepened my understanding of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and their critical role in shaping the future of responsible business practices. As you will recall, post the Kiteezi incident I wrote an article on the same. In an era where sustainability is no longer just a buzzword but a vital business imperative, this certification equips me with the tools to contribute meaningfully to the development and implementation of strategies that not only drive profitability but also prioritize ethical considerations and long-term environmental stewardship. As a telecom lawyer, I see immense potential in integrating ESG principles into the telecommunications industry, particularly in how we manage our environmental impact, social impact, foster inclusive growth, and maintain robust governance practices. This knowledge will enable me to advocate more effectively for sustainable practices and to help steer my organization towards a future that is not only financially sound but also socially responsible and environmentally conscious. I am excited to apply what I’ve learned and to continue growing in this critical area.
