A man accused of participating in the maintenance of a cannabis farm was unanimously acquitted notwithstanding links to the car he was arrested in, money and documents found at his residence, messages on his phone and evidence of his presence at the property. His successful defence was that he had entered the property but refused to work at the farm on invitation and that his phone was being used by his co-defendant who also lived at his residence. Dr Andreas O'Shea was instructed by Mr Mumin Hashim of Hayfield Law.

The second part of James Onalaja’s two-part article analysing the criticisms of the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor’s applications for arrest warrants in the Palestine Situation is published in this October’s issue of ‘Counsel’, the Journal of the Bar of England and Wales. Following September’s publication of the first part of James Onalaja's article, part-two addresses amongst other matters: the allegations of bias in the investigation and prosecution; potential evidential challenges; alleged failure of complementarity; the potential impact of immunities; the potential impact of the arrest warrants on states supplying arms to parties to the conflict; and the potential impact of the arrest warrants on steps to secure an end to the current hostilities. Part-Two of the article is out now both in print and online and may be freely accessed here: https://lnkd.in/e3Q-qE-p

SS was found Not Guilty of being knowingly concerned in the supply of class A & B drugs between January and September 2023. He admitted being involved in a drugs enterprise but advanced a Modern Slavery defence based on being in "debt bondage" to drug dealers. The jury was told about his 2 previous convictions for drug dealing. After less than 2 hours of deliberation, he was unanimously acquitted at Isleworth Crown Court. SS was represented by Kuljeet Singh Dobe. Instructed by Tank Jowett Solicitors.

187 Chambers are delighted to have been recognised, once again, in the Legal 500 2025 rankings. Chambers have received 20 individual rankings across 5 practice categories, including Tom Worden as rising star in London Bar Crime and South Eastern Circuit Crime. 'Chambers are always excellent and able to provide quality advocates at all times.' ‘187 Chambers have some fantastic barristers. The senior barristers have a wealth of experience and knowledge required for cases and often obtain exceptional results.’ The clerks room have also been commended: 'John Pyne and Theresa Tyler - two of the best out there. They are always available on the end of a phone and with powers to arrange court hearings and counsel are incredible.' 'The clerks are brilliant. Theresa Tyler and Steph Shaylor build good rapport with clients and provide them with quality advocates at all times.' ‘They have supportive clerks who always ensure that they provide suitable counsel, often at short notice and on occasions where private funding needs to be discussed, they are very realistic and reasonable in the fees they quote. There are out-of-office contacts should an emergency arise, which is very helpful.’ We would like to say a huge thank our clients for their continuing support and congratulations to all our members who have been ranked.
