Wellington Works, which has recently achieved planning consent, transforms an underused site into a contemporary mews development of 12 townhouses, arranged in two linked terraces. These narrow-fronted, four-storey homes each feature two bedrooms, a ground-floor work-from-home space, and private rooftop and winter gardens. The scheme is contemporary yet contextual, with a refined material palette that complements the local character. Sustainability is central, with best-in-class energy efficiency and low-carbon construction, guided by a robust community engagement strategy. Potters Bar, which has recently achieved planning, is a mixed-use residential development with mid-to-high-rise apartments. It comprises 55 residential dwellings, a gym, and commercial space. Additionally, the design includes a communal roof terrace for residents to access semi-private open space. The project, praised by the Planning Inspector for its sensitivity and response in providing a new and large-scale landmark, involves redeveloping a brownfield site adjacent to Potters Bar Station, replacing surplus surface car parking. The development rises to a maximum of 10 storeys, with its tallest element above the main entrance. The scheme creates a local landmark building for the area, combining residential, commercial, and recreational spaces in a visually appealing and viable manner. The Stockport Residential Design Guide is now published. Many years in the making, our collaboration with Planit has produced a Residential Design Guide structured across three scales: National/Regional, Town, and Street/Block. Approved in November 2024 after extensive public consultation, the guide ensures policy alignment while defining 12 character areas. The final version reflects community feedback and Stockport’s unique urban identity. Councillor Mark Hunter, Leader of Stockport Council, said: “This guide is a vital step in delivering our ambition to make Stockport the best place to live, work, and thrive. It ensures new developments are not only of the highest quality but also create sustainable, vibrant communities that reflect our bold vision for the future.” Caleb Jones, Senior Urban Designer at Planit, said: “We have been working with Stockport Council for a number of years to develop a set of design expectations that will guide positive and transformational change for the town. Increasing and enhancing the town centre’s residential offer is key to meeting the growing demand for urban living; whilst also protecting the town’s unique heritage assets and creating an attractive, green and clean place people want to work and live in.” Director, Paul Norbury, said: "Stockport Town Centre is undergoing significant change and has become a great place to live. The design guide covers key components of successful town centre living and showcases Stockport's character. It will help ensure residential schemes are designed to a high standard, creating sustainable and “liveable” homes that respect the town's rich heritage and contribute to the ongoing regeneration and provision of new homes in Stockport." Planning approval has been granted for a 10-storey development in Potters Bar Town Centre. This project for 55 residential dwellings with a gym and commercial space utilises a brownfield site adjacent to Potters Bar Station, and replaces surplus surface car parking, regenerating this sustainable town centre and transport hub location. The Planning Inspector praised its landmark quality and positive urban contribution. With predominantly south/west-facing or dual-aspect homes, the development includes private balconies where appropriate and a communal roof terrace. Its elegant, slender frontage establishes a new local landmark and highlights future potential for the wider station car park site.
