We’re nearing completion on this beautiful new build project, where we’ve delivered the full external facade, showcasing a range of expertly crafted stonework: - Dressed Stone Mullioned Windows & Doors in Bath Stone - Dressed Stone Colonnades - Facade Pitched Face Walling Stone in Wealden Sussex Sandstone - York Stone Plinth running the full perimeter. - A more contemporary designed porch in solid curved stone construction From the earliest stages of the project, we were retained to advise on the design and detailing of the stone assemblies. 2024 has been incredible. From delivering award-winning projects to launching our state-of-the-art workshop , it’s been a time of growth and innovation. We’ve had the privilege of working on contemporary masterpieces, restoring heritage treasures, and gems in between. One highlight - Featuring at the Stone Federation National Awards for the third time in a row (2020 winning, 2022 highly commended, 2024 winning) - a testament to the skill and dedication of our entire team. As we start 2025, we’re looking at making marginal gains where we can. With improved banker shop facilities, a new covered 400 pallet storage area and more challenging projects on the horizon our pipeline runs into 2027. We don’t think in 3 year blocks. 10 - 20 year time frames is our measure of success . To all our colleagues in this most demanding of industries , thank you for being part of this journey. Recently Highly Commended in the Natural Stone Awards 2024, this project is a stunning example of thoughtful design harmonising with its natural surroundings. Located in Wiltshire, the building is surrounded by a river and mill pond, with water flowing directly beneath it. To address the challenges of its unique flood-prone setting, arches crafted from Brinscall Grit stone were incorporated into the design, allowing water to pass freely under the structure - combining functionality with timeless beauty. This project also featured expert interior stonework, including a bespoke fireplace and staircase, showcasing our versatility in delivering complete stonemasonry solutions. This award winning project honoured the original Lutyens style, with careful batted-tool finishes and a minimal intervention approach that focused on traditional techniques. Our team worked meticulously to restore stonework, precisely align walling patterns and angles, and preserve historical integrity. Stonework is timeless, yet adapting to modern standards ensures its relevance and functionality for the future. Our recently featured, Grade I listed, award-winning project showcases both traditional craftsmanship alongside design for thermal control. We integrated thermal breaks into the stone components; these breaks prevent thermal bridging and avoids the risk of condensation to the inside of the building. In our design of these breaks, we adopt special insulation that matches the compressible strength of the stone itself. The inner and outer stone layers are securely bonded together using resin-fixed basalt dowels (non-ferrous dowels are used to prevent cold-bridging through the dowels themselves). The window assembly is a structural system, including transoms detailed to transmit wind loads back to the main load carrying mullions. This method not only met modern thermal performance standards but also preserved the original Lutyens-style batted finishes, ensuring the building’s heritage features remained intact.
