    Twice now I have been into two separate referrals from our existing dealers (we generally only work from referrals - we don't cold call very often). On BOTH occasions the garage has explained that when they sell a car they tell the customer that if there is a fault that they must contact the dealer first and not to go to their current warranty company directly........ 😲 And the reason is to avoid the Head Office declining the claim, the customer then phoning the dealer, the dealer then phoning their rep, the rep then phoning Head Office to get the claim paid, the rep then calling the dealer back and then the dealer calling the customer!!! The dealer wants the customer to call them and then they call their Rep to get the claim "approved" before going back to the customer.......... eh???? What level of "service" is that??? 🤷♂️ A no brainer as far as I was concerned as we operate the garage own in-house warranty systems FOR them, not AGAINST them. No arguing with reps as it's the garage's own money. One of them even said that they were told by the referring dealer of ours that we find the customer a garage if they don't have one and that we pay the garage with a debit card over the phone before the customer collects their car......"We do all that and more" I replied - thinking that we may have another new account in a moment....... "We are your own after-sales dept helping you to look after your customers. Fully qualified mechanics acting on your behalf to ensure that the customer concerns are addressed, whether they are warranty issues or not. We will deal with the customer and the payments for you. And what you don't claim....you get back. We answer the vast majority of emails within the hour and calls before 7 rings." Both garages said that they would like to think about it. Fair enough. Maybe it's too good to be true? Maybe the garage don't believe me (or their friends who referred us to them)? Maybe they want to do some sums and look at what they pay each year for warranties vs what they claim. I asked both the garages in question to ask their current warranty provider for their claim stats, mentioning that if they make up excuses not to provide them that it will only be for one reason......that the warranty company is making too much money out of them and they don't want the dealer to see them. Hopefully they will come back to me shortly.     Following on from my last post about reporting more "good news", I am happy to say that one of our longstanding clients have opened their second branch. The IMDA member Junction 17 are now not only in Peterborough but also in Grantham. This is me congratulating the manager Darren for a really great start. 44 cars in their first month from a standing start! More good news will follow to help counteract some of the doom about sites closing.

    My son asked me if I wanted to join him "on a sponsored walk" a few months ago. "Yes" I said. "Who's it in aid of?" "Noah's Ark Children's Hospital. My work are organising it Vantage Data Centers. It will be good fun". "Of course. Happy to help. Where are we walking?" (flash back memories to sponsored walks at school in the local park and 25 laps round the playing fields). "Er.....the Brecon Beacons dad. And it's 25 klms up and down a few hills......" So, we made it from the Story Arms, up Corn Du, across to Pen Y Fan, then a long walk to Talybont Reservoir.......and then back the same way. 29 klms, not 25 Josh! 40,000 steps later. I can honestly say it was the most painful yet wonderful thing I have done in a long time. 10 hours walking in the best nature had to offer. Great company and all credit to my son Josh Haskell for dragging me up some of those hills. There were parts that were seriously steep. Love you mate. Vantage Data Centers raised over £2,000 to support the poorly children so a great effort by all the walkers and support staff. Home now, looking for a cheap knee and hip replacement clinic. Any ideas?

    Can any of my connections assist with a huge problem with Emirates. We have 2 friends stuck in Dubai airport who were supposed to fly home yesterday morning. Flights were cancelled due to the biblical weather which is fair enough but now they have been told that they cannot get them home due to a lack of availability. They have paid for their flights and are not getting them. Emirates have not bothered to help get them home. Shame on them.

    Tokyo is CRAZY!!! Such a contrast to the last week or so. An assault on every one of your senses. 33 million people in the greater Tokyo region and every single one of them wanted to bump into me whilst out walking around. Most of them looking at their phones grrrrr. Feeling claustrophobic!

    Been to Hiroshima to the site of one of the A-Bomb drops. Listened to the first hand experience of a survivor who broke down telling us his story of that day when he lost most of his family in the space of a few seconds. Then later, he lost his mother and sister from the effects of radiation. He is now in his nineties and has no family left. Very sobering indeed.
