🔧 Happy International Repair Day 🧵 Today's #InternationalRepairDay marks 15 years since the first Repair Cafe was set up, and we're celebrating everyone who makes repair happen in Abbey. Thanks to all the incredible volunteer repairers, cafe hosts and support from @CambridgeCarbonFootprint, this year the Abbey Repair Cafes have prevented 2,203 kg of CO2 emissions! Our volunteer repairers have fixed over 94 items - from hairdryers to electric drills, and backpacks to jeans 👖 Not only do Repair Cafes help extend the life of people's beloved items, they most importantly bring people together. This year... 🔨 Abbey Repair Cafe volunteers have volunteered a fantastic 201 hours. 📻 15 new volunteers have been mentored as repairers, helping them learn mending skills and gain confidence to share these skills with more people in the community. 🧵 39 visitors at our July Repair Cafe said the Repair Cafe helped them learn greater knowledge and skills to fix things. To highlight just how widespread and global the Repair Cafe movement is, every Repair Cafe was invited to make a textile flag representing their group to hang on a bunting line at the 15th birthday celebration in Amsterdam. Special thanks to Alex, a local volunteer sewing repairer, who made the Abbey Repair Cafe bunting flag! You can find a Repair Cafe near you at https://buff.ly/4eHm3VO If you would like to get involved in our next Abbey Repair Cafe, please contact Caitlin at greenspaces@abbeypeople.org.uk

We're excited to share that work to create a new pocket garden on Rayson Way will be commencing this week 🌱 We're working closely with our contractor to make sure there's minimal disturbance to residents and during the school runs. Please be aware that there may be contactors and work vehicles in the area for a couple weeks 🦺 Together with the community we've been planning to create a biodiversity garden and artwork on Barnwell Road. Helping to save, preserve and develop local wildlife. The work on Rayson Way is the first stage of the Barnwell Verge: Seeds of Hope project. Over the coming seasons, we'll be running a variety of community planting and gardening activities, including sewing wildflower seeds, planting shrubs and more 🌼 If you would like to get involved, please contact greenspaces@abbeypeople.org.uk
