🌟Meet The Team🌟 Hi, I’m Chloe and I am the Operations and Office Co-Ordinator. I have worked at Acorn for 7 years this month. My favourite thing about working at Acorn is being a part of a close knit team that supports one another as the company continues to grow. I love how Acorn focuses on enhancing our learning to better our understanding and knowledge, and how I can bring that training to life whilst getting stuck into my role. Before working at Acorn, I went to university in Bristol and studied Forensic Science. Outside of work, I enjoy reading, writing stories, walking my dogs, and playing video games. Last year, I got married, and we recently bought a caravan to travel the country with our two dogs.

Men’s Health Month💙 November is Men’s Health Month, a time to raise awareness and educate ourselves on the health challenges men face. Did you know that men are statistically less likely to visit a doctor, often waiting until symptoms become severe? Raising awareness and encouraging regular health check-ups can make a big difference in preventing serious health issues. At Acorn Occupational Health, we’re here to help workplaces create environments where men feel empowered to address their health proactively. 🧠 Mental Health - Depression, anxiety, and stress affect men deeply, yet many go undiagnosed due to stigma. Offering mental health workshops and wellness action plans (WAPs) can encourage men to open up and seek the support they need. 🩺 Physical Health - Regular check-ups can catch health issues early. Encourage men in your team to stay on top of their health by having routine assessments and prioritising physical well-being. 👥 Support Systems - Men’s Health Month is a reminder for workplaces to foster open, safe spaces for discussing health and wellness. From peer support networks to listening services, there are many ways to build supportive communities. Follow us this month as we discuss ways to raise awareness around men’s health and share tips on creating a supportive workplace for all💪 #MensHealthMonth #MensHealthAwareness #AcornOH #OccupationalHealth

  • 🩷Breast Cancer Awareness - How We Can Help Support Employees with Breast Cancer 🩷 Facing a breast cancer diagnosis can be an incredibly overwhelming experience, not just for the individual but also for their colleagues and employers. It’s important to remember that employees don’t have to navigate this journey alone. At Acorn Occupational Health, we provide tailored support to help individuals undergoing treatment, ensuring they have the resources they need to manage their health effectively. Our comprehensive services include: 💼 Occupational Health Assessments – We conduct thorough evaluations to understand each employee's unique situation and needs, providing valuable insights that guide support strategies. 📝 Return to Work Planning – Transitioning back to work after treatment can be daunting. We assist in developing customised plans that accommodate employees' needs while ensuring a smooth reintegration into the workplace. 🧠 Mental Health Support During Recovery – Coping with a breast cancer diagnosis can take a toll on mental health. Our compassionate team offers psychological support to help employees navigate their emotions and challenges throughout their recovery journey. Moreover, we are excited to offer Q&A/presentation sessions for companies looking to create a more supportive work environment for employees affected by breast cancer. These sessions can provide vital information on the disease, ways to support affected colleagues and how to foster a culture of empathy and understanding within your organisation. To raise awareness and spark conversations about breast cancer, one of our talented nurses even knitted boob keyrings last year! These fun and creative pieces serve as a conversation starter and a reminder of the importance of breast health. #BreastCancerAwareness #AcornOH #OccupationalHealth #BreastCancer

  • Breast Cancer Awareness - Spotting The Signs 🩷 Did you know that early detection can increase breast cancer survival rates by up to 90%? That's why it's so important to stay informed about the signs and symptoms. Being aware of the changes in your body can make a life-saving difference. Here are some key symptoms to watch out for: 🔍 A lump or thickening in the breast or underarm 🔍 Changes in breast shape or size – Any swelling, shrinkage, or asymmetry that wasn't there before. 🔍 Skin changes – Dimpling, redness, or puckering of the breast skin can be signs of something serious. 🔍 Unexplained pain in the breast or nipple – Pain isn’t always present, but if it is, it’s worth paying attention. It's easy to dismiss changes as nothing, but being proactive about your health is key. Early detection gives you more treatment options and a better chance of a positive outcome. Remember: Breast cancer doesn’t always present symptoms in its early stages, so regular screenings and mammograms are crucial, especially for those over 40 or with a family history of breast cancer. #BreastCancerAwareness #SpotTheSigns #EarlyDetection #AcornOH #EmployeeWellbeing #BreastCancer

  • 🌟Meet The Team🌟 Hi, my name is Ruth and I have worked for Acorn for almost 4 years. Prior to joining the Acorn team, I worked as a midwife, then did a number of years working in fertility, followed by ten years as a Practice Nurse. I believe that the experience gained in all of these previous areas has helped me to offer my best within my current role. My role as an Occupational Health Advisor initially saw me carrying out a combination of Health Surveillance and Management Referrals across various sites. Twelve months ago, I joined the Management Referral Team. It is a very supportive team and a role that I enjoy and get satisfaction from, knowing that I have assisted people in promoting their own health and wellbeing, thus enabling them to return to work or remain at work with the right support in place. Working within this team means I can work remotely (sometimes very much so in my case) which in turn helps me to partake of my other non work-related interests. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and my two crazy Bernese Mountain dogs, one of which is a thief! I also like baking, often assisted by Harry the thief! I enjoy reading too but my biggest passion is crafting. I dabble in all sorts of crafts including needle felting, sewing, crochet and knitting. Along with a friend, we create knitted and/or crocheted ‘toppers’ for post boxes. This is something that started countrywide during the lockdown times of 2020, but continues to bring a smile to lots of faces today. We have our own spot in the local supermarket. I’ve had a spinning wheel for many years and recently got back in to it, which is a big learning curve! In the summer, my remote working allowed me to spend time where there is access to a lot of fleece and I even hand sheared a couple of sheep! I’ve still got a lot to learn but my end goal is to turn something the sheep was wearing into a garment for me to wear. Little known fact about me – I have appeared on the television twice!
