For the past four years, the ADD team in Bangladesh have been working with organisations of persons with disabilities to campaign for access to mental health support. “Our organisation works in the slums. The people there are very poor. There are no doctors, no mental health services. I like that we can take mental health care to the slums through this project.” Aleya Begum, disability justice activist. Earlier this year, we partnered with the Financial Times to support disability justice leaders in a coaching and mentorship program that equipped them with employability skills. Young disabled people are often excluded from employment, and this training aimed to support them to access opportunities. Tahiya, one of the young leaders who went through the program shares her experience: https://lnkd.in/gXfSqRSt #DisabilityJustice #Employment #Mentorship

Bond recently launched a new report: “Decolonising economic development: the role of development sector.” Our Co Chief Executive Officer Mary Ann Clements was on the panel of the launch event. “This report highlights that the term ‘decolonizing’ risks becoming meaningless unless rooted in action. That’s why at ADD we are focused on increasing the flow of resources directly to disability justice movements.” You can access the report here: https://lnkd.in/grWphKFE #DisabilityJustice #Decolonising #EconomicDevelopment

Today, on #WorldMentalHealthDay, we are highlighting the work of organisations of persons with disabilities (OPDs) campaigning for access to mental health support and tackling stigma in Bangladesh. Nasrin is a disability justice activist from Bangladesh: “I am a person with a mental health problem. I have recovered a lot with the support of ADD’s mental health project. Most importantly, I am now leading an OPD. We have developed a project for our organisation. I cannot imagine how I have done so much.” #WMHD2024 #DisabilityJustice
