Over the last couple of days, we have heard concerns from many local partners in Age UK about the impact of the budget on our ability to support older people next year. We are currently in the process of trying to work out the full impact of the changes announced to Employer NICs at the Budget on Age UK, the national charity, and on our 120 local Age UKs in England and partners in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. In doing so we are also having to take into account the impact of the rise in the National Minimum Wage, which at 6.7%. Many local partners are funded by the NHS or local authorities to deliver services. At a mimimum, we believe that commissioners should be required to increase those contracts to cover these costs. Some of our charities could be hit quite hard, in which case we would be really concerned about this reducing our capacity to support the older people who badly need us. I have signed the letter being co-ordinated by our friends NCVO and ACEVO to encourage the Chancellor to consider this as the details of the Budget are worked through. https://lnkd.in/eyJCPmWM

Amazing work from St John's Foundation 👇 Have you tried the Chatty Bench yet? #agefriendlycommunity
We’ve installed a Chatty Bench! The Chatty Bench plaque acts as a talking point and encourages those who see them to reach out and spark up conversations with the people sitting there. Chatty Benches aim to encourage meaningful conversation, a new friendship or simply a smile shared with a stranger. By providing an opportunity for people to sit down, have a chat and stay connected we can help reduce loneliness and isolation. At St John’s we work to combat the effects of isolation and loneliness in our older adults. You can read more about the challenges and how we help tackle them here: https://lnkd.in/e-Jzxqxh

Great work from the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust, Veronica Kuperman and the team to reduce the Digital Divide. 👇 Looking forward to continuing to join the dots to reduce this rising inequality across Bath & North East Somerset with Tech4Good South West and the Bath Digital Divide Collective. We need to continue to ensure that people aren't #OfflineandOverlooked by enabling them to make the choice of how they access services and support either - by phone, letter or face to face rather than being constantly pushed to wards digital. It has to be a choice. Initiatives like this one at the RUH, our own Digital Inclusion project and the Bath Digital Divide Collective work are essential to bridging the gap. #digitaldivide #digitalinclusion #digitalexclusion #ageingwell #community
A great new service for patients at the Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust
