🌍✨ It's B Corp Month! ✨🌍 March is B Corp Month - a time to champion businesses that go beyond profit to make a real impact on people and the planet. 😎 🤔 So what is a B Corp? B Corps are businesses that think boldly, act for change and demand a better future by meeting high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability - and they are certified by B Lab UK! ⭐ At A Good Thing, we connect businesses with charities to give pre-loved and surplus items a second life. This helps to: 🗑️ Reduce waste 🫶 Support charities 🫂 Foster community connections We're thrilled that 13 amazing B Corps are already part of this movement across the UK, from Colchester to Barnsley to St Austell to Swindon! Swipe to see the wide range of items they have donated already. 👏 If your business is a B Corp - or just shares these values - why not join us? 💗 Match Made! 💗 🌻 As you may know, A Good Thing (UK) connects businesses and charities to reduce waste and increase resources. 👗 A surprising match occurred when Working Wardrobe listed surplus clothing hangers. Working Wardrobe chose Pet Food Bank Service to receive these hangers which are now used to display clothes and dog coats in their community shop, which helps raise funds to keep the pet food bank running! This is a lovely example of how just about anything listed on the A Good Thing (UK) platform will get snapped up - sometimes by an unlikely cause! 🫶 Could your business donate items to charity instead of sending them to landfill? Let’s make a positive impact together! Check out the full story here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eDqhxJqu #SendLessToLandfill #Donate #Charity #Business #GoodNews

🍕 🧁 🌮 It's Food Waste Action Week! 🥦 🥕 🍰 We're happy to share this 'charity need' to demonstrate how using the A Good Thing (UK) platform can contribute to reducing food waste AND single-use plastic consumption. ♻️ Involve - Voluntary Action in Mid Devon supports and promotes voluntary and community action. They recently posted a charity need, requesting any paper bags that local retailers may be able to spare. 🥧At community fridges across Mid Devon, large quantities of unwrapped pastries are often donated. When volunteers give them out, they get popped in a bag for reasons of hygiene and practicality. Involve is trying hard to reduce their reliance on single-use plastics, so have been buying paper bags... but they get through a lot, and they're not especially cheap! 🥐 SO - do you want to help bring delicious pastries to communities? 🗑️ Would you like to help reduce food waste as a result? 🛍️ And can you help Involve to do so in plastic-free, paper bags? Please respond to this charity need if you are able to, or share this with contacts you think might be able to help! 👉 https://lnkd.in/es_vd-9H #FWAW #FoodWasteActionWeek #Donation #Charity #SendLessToLandfill #Community

💗 Match Made! 💗 Mulalley had surplus timber, and Streetbox needed materials for their latest project—thanks to A Good Thing (UK), they were connected! ♻️ Instead of going to waste, the timber was used to build a shelter for fresh produce, supporting Streetbox’s mission to fight food waste and hunger. 🏡🍏 This is the perfect example of how connecting businesses and charities can create positive social change and protect the environment, all for free! One of our volunteers has written a blog about this match made in heaven — read more here 👉 https://buff.ly/onffM6W #Sustainability #ReduceReuseRecycle #SendLessToLandfill #Charity #Donation #Network #Impact

Happy International Women's Day! ♀️ 👯♀️ Today, we are proudly celebrating the women behind A Good Thing (UK). Out of our 21 amazing volunteers, 20 are women, all driving real change by connecting businesses with charities to reduce waste and do good. 💜 Women were more likely than men to have participated in voluntary activities in England with 56% of women volunteering in 2023/24, compared with 52 percent of men. Their dedication, compassion, and hard work make a huge difference in communities across the UK, including in the A Good Thing (UK) community.💗 To all the women making the world a better place in so many ways, we appreciate you, and we celebrate you today and every day! #IWD #Women #Celebrate #Empower #Charity #Volunteering

📚 Happy World Book Day! 📚 Unfortunately, almost a million children in the UK do not have a single book of their own at home, while 18% of adults were found to have "very poor literacy skills", according to research by the National Literacy Trust. Here at A Good Thing (UK), we are proud to have facilitated matches which make reading and writing more accessible to wide range of people. We’re celebrating by reflecting on some of the exciting book-based matches made through the A Good Thing (UK) platform. 🚨 But first, we'd like to highlight a charity need! 🚨 🙏 The Frank Charles Give A Gift Appeal is seeking books for the children it supports. The charity grants wishes to children and adults with life-limiting illnesses, and also supports families experiencing homelessness. Now for some matches that have already been made: 📖 The charity Maidenhead Community Book Festival received face masks ands ID badges for their event. 🌺 90 floristry and gardening books were donated by Booker Flowers and Gifts - Liverpool Florist - Flower Delivery Liverpool . These were split across a hospice charity, a charity supporting adults with learning disabilities and a homeless charity. 🦸 Over 700 copies of an inspirational self-help book were donated to three charities, including a London charity working to give young people opportunities. 🧵 Around 100 brand-new books about textiles and fashion were donated by a London conference venue, following an event. 📕 A Good Thing supports many community libraries across the UK. North Harrow Community Library received a printer last year, while Fallowfield Library in Greater Manchester has received many donations including mirrors, meeting-room chairs, T-shirts and a TV! 🛠️ Happy Repair Week! 🧵 But... what is Repair Week? This awareness-raising week was launched in 2020. The aim? To give people practical skills and encourage greater use of repair services! 🧰 This week, ReLondon is bringing together a wide range of organisations and individuals who have expertise, skills and services to share. Londoners are encouraged to attend events to grow their skills and signpost services where people can get their once-loved items repaired. 🪛 We are so excited to promote this initiative! At A Good Thing (UK), we make it easy for businesses to donate unwanted items to local charities. We're all about reusing items that would have otherwise gone to waste. ⭕ We are fellow proponents of the circular economy, and want to show our strong support for other organisations doing their part to get us there! 💪 Does your business have items which could use a little TLC to bring them back to life? Maybe there's a local charity in your area that would be happy to take them! 👉 https://buff.ly/3gtEAJl #Network #Repair #ReUse #ReLondon #Impact #SendLessToLandfill #Community
