A Greener Future

We launched something momentous this week at GEI15. After 17 years, A Greener Festival begins a new life as A Greener Future. Our new visual identity is built on our values: a bold, unapologetic expression for a greener future. As a not-for-profit, we’ve spent nearly two decades pouring all we have into the sustainability of the live sector. We have always been about real action that raises the bar, with continuous improvements. Quality over quantity. In our new incarnation, we broaden horizons and raise ambition to do the important work of bringing the whole events, music, entertainment, and sports ecosystem into more sustainable structures and ways of operating. We began with the festival sector and over the years now work with the whole events and live ecosystem for instance with the Greener Arena, Greener Tour and Greener Supplier branches and within sports, hospitality and ceremonial events as well as music. Our story reflects the evolution of sustainability in the events and entertainment sector and in society at large. It’s no longer a niche, it’s an all-encompassing direction of travel where all the pieces are starting to fit together for a greener future for us all. More good news… The net zero sector is growing three times faster than the overall UK economy, providing higher than average wage jobs across the country, and cutting climate-heating emissions, and increasing energy security. The net zero economy grew by 10% in 2024 and generated £83bn in gross value added (GVA), a measure of how much value companies add through the goods and services they produce. The analysis, by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), found 22,000 net zero businesses, from renewable energy to green finance, employ almost a million people in full-time jobs. The average annual wage – £43,000 – was £5,600 higher than the national average. Ákos shares his insights on the best practices, emerging trends, and obstacles in sustainability within the events industry. “The other problem is more of a political concern: Hungary has had a far right-wing Government for 14 years, and there is very little support for climate change and climate intervention. The political environment is not supportive of issues such as climate change.
