We launched something momentous this week at GEI15. After 17 years, A Greener Festival begins a new life as A Greener Future. Our new visual identity is built on our values: a bold, unapologetic expression for a greener future. As a not-for-profit, we’ve spent nearly two decades pouring all we have into the sustainability of the live sector. We have always been about real action that raises the bar, with continuous improvements. Quality over quantity. In our new incarnation, we broaden horizons and raise ambition to do the important work of bringing the whole events, music, entertainment, and sports ecosystem into more sustainable structures and ways of operating. We began with the festival sector and over the years now work with the whole events and live ecosystem for instance with the Greener Arena, Greener Tour and Greener Supplier branches and within sports, hospitality and ceremonial events as well as music. Our story reflects the evolution of sustainability in the events and entertainment sector and in society at large. It’s no longer a niche, it’s an all-encompassing direction of travel where all the pieces are starting to fit together for a greener future for us all. Keep an eye out over the next few weeks as we complete our evolution! #AGF #agreenerfuture #agreenerfestival #sustainability #evolution
About us
Previously A Greener Festival. A not-for-profit company committed to helping events, tours, venues and festivals around the world to be greener. Founders of the worlds first green event standards - the AGF Awards. We provide information, education resources and facilitate the exchange of good ideas. We consult with organisations and events of all scales from Roskilde Festival, BST Hyde Park, AEG, The Queens Platinum Jubilee, RHS, Royal Parks, The O2 Arena, Wembley Arena, to small grassroots organisations. All of our activities are to create a greener live events ecosystem globally. Since 2007, our ‘AGF Certification’ scheme has assessed over 1000 events and venues worldwide; it has been instrumental in helping organisations to adapt or refine their actions, improving resource efficiency and environmental impact. Following the original Greener Festival Award, in 2017 we launched the "Greener Event Award" and since the "Greener Arena Certification" and "Greener Tour Certification" which now works with Conferences, Trade Fairs, Sports Events, Arenas, Venues, Ceremonies and more. Why Apply for certification? Aside from the publicity gained from being part of the AGF certification scheme, the process ensures that events complete an Environmental Impact Assessment to understand, set targets, monitor and improve environmental performance. This is beneficial not only for our environment and the industry as a whole but also sets events at a competitive advantage to those who don’t grasp this vital knowledge.

Another great find in our 'Spotted by Our AGF Assessors' series! In this ongoing series, we highlight the top finds made by our dedicated AGF assessors at festivals, arenas, and various events around the world. Each post features a standout quote from one of our assessors, shedding light on the innovative and inspiring sustainability practices seen at these events. 🌱 🔍 Today's feature: Øyafestivalen Our assessors were on site at Øyafestivalen in Norway. Two excellent actions were implemented at the event for this year’s edition: 1. Taking the bold and important step to stop selling meat in the audience food stalls! A big action that significantly reduces the carbon footprint of the event (and protects many more beautiful animals from cruelty). This is in addition to the event also having the highest level of organic certification its possible to achieve in Norway, proving that over 90% of all ingredients used in food served at Øya was organic! 2. ‘Nature’ was the main environmental theme at this year’s event (yes, Øya has one of those each year!). Two out of the three beautiful actions and collaborations in place showcased this: - Every day before the first act on the main stage, endangered bird songs curated by Oslo’s Natural History Museum were played alongside visuals. - "Trees in Tøyenparken" was visual messaging about the trees present in the inner-city park where Øya is held. Once a day, the collaborator on the project Trekontoret (the Tree Office), gave guided tours taking participants around to see and learn about some of the more visible and iconic trees in the park. A beautiful action that focused on what we in sustainability are all working on, protecting Mama Nature. “ 🌍 Stay up to date as we share our assessors' findings every week. 🌱 More about the sustainability efforts behind Uber One Presents All Points East Festival 2024: AGF’s sustainability consultant Victoria G. speaks with Mark Tyler and Paul Gilbey from Nu Group Services Limited about the innovative back-of-house sorting facilities implemented at the festival. With NU Group, we established a sorting facility using repurposed wooden pallets to manage the mixed #recycling collected from front-of-house bins. The recycling waste was meticulously sorted into categories, including cans, plastics, e-waste, cardboard, glass, and general waste, ensuring proper disposal and improvements in recycling practices. This initiative aimed to gather data on the waste stream's cross-contamination levels at Uber One Presents All Points East, providing valuable insights for stakeholders to inform future #waste management decisions. 🎤 Last week, our CEO Claire O'Neill spoke at the Sport Positive Summit 2024 on the panel "Pop Culture Unite: Music and Entertainment Learnings for Sport" alongside Greg Cochrane and Sam Booth (AEG Europe). The session focused on the learnings that music and sport can exchange on sustainability and climate. As Claire said: “As well as many important topics about decarbonising events, A Greener Future_, Act 1.5, Grid Faeries, and the power of pop culture to transform societies, the mention of everyone getting wet knickers watching Massive Attack seemed to get the biggest audience response.” 🌱 The session also featured an interview with Rou Reynolds from #EnterShikari and insights from panellists Anna Lily Gibson (Heard – organisation) and Katie Cross (Pledgeball) on the importance of communication in building the movement. Following this, we heard from #Bastille’s Dan Smith sharing his recent visit to the Sargasso Sea for Greenpeace, before rounding out the session.
