What kind of leadership does #COP30 require from the creative sector? Our founder Alison Tickell and Thiago Jesus from our Creative Climate Leadership programme team are in Brazil to explore this question with cultural leaders, practitioners, and organisations who are advocating for culture to play a key role in climate policy and action. During the Rio leg of their trip Alison and Thiago met with the COP30 President Andre Correa do Lago, British Consul General Anjoum Noorani and Lais Almeda and Karen Kristian from Funarte - the National Foundation for the Arts. More meetings with potential partners and collaborators continue today in Brasilia. And next week Alison and Thiago will also deliver creative leadership in climate action workshops in Belém with our partners from the Department of Culture SECULT Pará - co-faciliatated by artist, storyteller and community builder Isadora Canela. Pará has an abundance of fantastic cultural leaders already mobilising and making plans for sustainable creative events. These workshops will support them in their work through an activation of our recently published guide, Culture, Sustainability and Climate Change: From Ideas to Action, using JB’s Creative Climate Leadership programme methodology. We look forward to sharing the outcomes of the trip as well as inspiring stories of how culture is planning to show up at COP30 in Brazil later this year. #CreativeClimateAction #CultureAtCOP

Our friends and partners Native Events and Julie's Bicycle Europe have programmed a fantastic event in Dublin on the 10th April, bringing together the creative climate community in Ireland. Tickets for the Realise Sustainability Summit are on sale now, don't miss out! https://lnkd.in/e-rtXq8v
Realising a sustainable future takes a community, an ecosystem. We're delighted to take this moment to shine a spotlight on our incredible partners and sponsors who are supporting us in making the REALISE Sustainability Summit a reality. 🌱 - Julie's Bicycle Europe https://lnkd.in/gs_YbjNR - IMMA - Irish Museum of Modern Art https://imma.ie/ - Regional Waste Management Planning Offices (RWMPOs) https://mywaste.ie/ - Dublin City Council (DCC) https://lnkd.in/dshJjyrk The climate crisis needs us to transcend silos and egos—nature's ecosystems thrive through symbiotic relationships, not competition. That's the ethos we're embracing at REALISE. By uniting changemakers, creatives and visionaries from diverse backgrounds and industries, we can cross-pollinate ideas, pool resources, share knowledge and implement action to build the sustainable solutions that Ireland’s Cultural & Creation Industries need. This summit will be a testament to the power of collaboration. To quote our Director Megan Best: “No one is bringing all these creatives together, to discuss common challenges and to share knowledge. All of this action needs to be coordinated, linked and networked so it can be accelerated. That’s why we’re hosting this event.” To our sponsors we're honoured to have you all on board as we work to realise a creative force. 💚 More information available here: https://lnkd.in/eTdFAkPM Summit Date: Thursday April 10th 2025 #CreativeClimateAction #CultureforClimate #SystemsChange #RegenerativeCulture

Need some afternoon inspiration? Back in 2023 we took part in Gallery Climate Coalition (GCC)'s #ClimateCrisisArtAction symposium. The event offered insightful conversations and practical frameworks to help accelerate sustainability efforts within the cultural sector. Our Founder Alison Tickell took part in an energising panel on activism in art spaces... "There are loads of different layers of activism and real change is happening now. Be curious and courageous in equal measure" - Alison Tickell Revisit the resources from the event and explore the practical steps you can take to make meaningful #CreativeClimateAction happen...
Two years ago, on 2 & 3 March 2023, Whitechapel Gallery and GCC came together to host Climate Crisis >> Art Action, a groundbreaking symposium tackling the most pressing environmental challenges facing the UK’s public arts institutions. Now, as we reflect on the legacy of this event, it’s clear that its connections made and conversations it sparked continue to shape climate action in the sector today. The symposium took place at the Bishopsgate Institute, bringing together key figures from the arts and climate sectors to discuss decarbonisation, institutional responsibility, and systemic change. The event featured thought-provoking panels and presentations from speakers such as Emma Brown (Just Stop Oil), Frances Morris (then Director of Tate Modern), and Alison Tickell (Founder & CEO, Julie’s Bicycle), alongside leaders from public institutions, grassroots organisations, and climate science, concluding with an original performance by Love Ssega (musician, producer, artist). Looking back, Climate Crisis >> Art Action was more than just a conference—it was a catalyst for change. The event marked a turning point for many individuals as well as organisations, offering both inspiration and practical frameworks to begin or accelerate their sustainability efforts. In the two years since, we’ve heard from countless arts professionals who cite the symposium as their entry point into climate action—a moment that transformed their understanding of their institution’s role in tackling the climate crisis. As Gilane Tawadros, Director of Whitechapel Gallery, reflects: “Whitechapel Gallery is proud to have been a partner with the Gallery Climate Coalition on its ground-breaking conference ‘Climate Crisis: Art Action’ in March 2023. The conference marked a significant turning point in awareness and understanding of the climate crisis in relation to the gallery and museum sector. Most importantly, the conference acted as a critical call to action and provided a supportive and practical framework for museums and galleries to move forward confidently in addressing our responsibilities together.” Two years on, the urgency remains, but so does the momentum. Public arts institutions have a critical role to play in demonstrating climate leadership, and the tools and frameworks are now in place to support them. We encourage all those who attended—and those who are just beginning their climate action journey—to revisit the resources from the event and explore the practical steps they can take today. Last week we joined Attitude is Everything & A Greener Future at #GEI17 to launch the updated version of No Climate Action Without Us - the toolkit focusing on how to make disabled people’s access to live events environmentally sustainable. Have you had a look at the new version of the toolkit? It dives deeper into the barriers that disabled people experience within initiatives that tackle sustainability and outlines practical ways in which events, festivals and venues can implement accessible solutions within their climate action. Alongside the toolkit two new international case studies were also made available from disabled artists working in Japan (SLOW LABEL) and in France (CAMP) leading on projects that integrate access and sustainability.
