We've got two talented new starters on board to help us further develop better-than-ever services with our Polly bioacoustic insect monitoring device: Graduate Data Scientist, David G. and Graduate Field Scientist, Sophie Palmer! 🎉 🔊 With a background in audio research, David is in the final stages of completing a PhD programme that has included collaboration with the BBC to improve listener experiences. 🌱 Meanwhile Sophie comes to us with a background in biology and a passion for ecology, having gone from hedgehog houses in the garden to growing a mini rainforest inside her bedroom, to volunteering for conservation research in South Africa.  We're excited to see these two new members of the team bolster our offering to clients, developing new features for Polly and enabling even deeper data insights. Northern Ireland's new funding package could help farmers get their hands on tech like our Polly insect listening device... 🌾 DAERA Minister Andrew Muir has announced the Farming with Nature Package. This new program is set to help farmers in N. Ireland turn towards regenerative agriculture, focusing on enhancing habitats and sustainability on farmed land.  🚜 Our Polly tech is designed to deliver cutting-edge, real-time reporting in order to enhance habitats and protect biodiversity, by monitoring the health and activity of local pollinators.  Major food producers are now using Polly to demonstrate the benefits of natural farming methods, naturally increasing crop yield and empirically proving their nature-based initiatives work. 🌳 With an initial launch planned for 2025 and expansion in 2026, the package will provide farmers with the tools and support they need to implement regenerative practices. It will also support the reduction of carbon emissions, and help protect biodiversity. Our Precision Pollination trials are proving how natural interventions and accurate data can improve make fruit juicier, larger, sweeter and more nutritious. Now, we are also using it to develop the ideal conditions for bumblebees! 🍓 Our partner, NIAB, is using our Polly device to study bumblebee behaviour with different hive and environment temperatures. 🐝 This study will help us understand how to get the best pollination efficiency out of bumblebee colonies, especially while using Polly.
