Agronomist Pete Waltham was diagnosed with cancer in his tonsils last year at the age of 42, after noticing a small lump in his neck. He is now urging people working in the agricultural and rural sectors to act quickly should they notice a change in their health. Pete works for Agrovista UK Ltd on the Somerset Levels, advising on a mix of arable, forage and basket willow crops. Following his diagnosis, Pete’s treatment involved 6 weeks of radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The radiotherapy appointments were 5 days a week and the chemotherapy was once a week. Pete recognizes that the frequency of appointments and busy farming calendar could act as a deterrent for people seeking support. Pete said: “If you work within the agricultural community and find yourself faced with a diagnosis like mine then it is imperative that you seek to organise cover for your work and take the time required to go to all treatment and consultant appoints. You also need to take the time required to fully recover – it can take considerably longer than you might think.” Pete learned about FCN's UK-wide partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, including the charity’s #NipItInTheBud campaign, following a presentation at an Agrovista internal conference. He has shared his story in the hope it will encourage others to prioritise their health and be more aware of the signs and symptoms of cancer. 🌾Read more about Pete's story here: https://lnkd.in/g-rGQPPp #farminghelp #farminglife #backbritishfarming #farmwell #cancersupport #cancer
