About us
The Alternative Credit Council (ACC) is a global body that represents asset management firms in the private credit and direct lending space. It currently represents 250 members that manage over US$2 trillion of private credit assets. The ACC is an affiliate of AIMA and is governed by its own board which ultimately reports to the AIMA Council. ACC members provide an important source of funding to the economy. They provide finance to mid-market corporates, SMEs, commercial and residential real estate developments, infrastructure as well the trade and receivables business. The ACC’s core objectives are to provide guidance on policy and regulatory matters, support wider advocacy and educational efforts and generate industry research with the view to strengthening the sector's sustainability and wider economic and financial benefits. Alternative credit, private debt or direct lending funds have grown substantially in recent years and are becoming a key segment of the asset management industry. The ACC seeks to explain the value of private credit by highlighting the sector's wider economic and financial stability benefits.

The updated AIMA/ACC Due Diligence Questionnaire (DDQ) brings a refined, streamlined approach reflecting the evolving private markets landscape while enhancing one of our most valued member resources. This first major revision since 2019 includes a new Private Markets strategy module, and updates to priority areas for private credit such as liquidity risk management, leverage risks, and expense disclosures. Crucially, the DDQ is now even easier to use, with a new decision tree tool that helps users identify the right modules quickly — ensuring investors and managers can access relevant content efficiently. We encourage members to explore the updated DDQ alongside the ACC’s Corporate Lending DDQ, which remains a vital resource for assessing private credit managers. 📄 Learn more about the changes: https://lnkd.in/eBsbjixD 🧭 Try the decision tree tool: https://lnkd.in/egB2HajX 🎥 Watch the video tutorial: https://lnkd.in/eX_KZDVE #PrivateCredit #DueDiligence #InvestmentStandards

The ACC and AIMA welcomes today’s Strategy Communication on the Savings & Investments Union (SIU) — an important step towards enhancing the EU’s global competitiveness. https://lnkd.in/eq3Zkf-Y The ACC has consistently advocated for meaningful reforms that will ensure the SIU achieves its objectives. Our recent engagement with policymakers emphasised the need to improve capital allocation by EU investors, simplify regulatory frameworks, and remove barriers that restrict investment in productive areas of the economy. A key priority for the ACC is ensuring that securitisation reform is positioned as a cornerstone of the SIU’s success. A well-functioning securitisation market would allow insurers and pension funds to more efficiently channel capital into private credit, ultimately supporting businesses, infrastructure, and economic growth. We have shared these priorities in our recent response to the Commission’s call for evidence and in our letter to Commissioner Maria-Luis Albuquerque, helping policymakers understand the practical steps required to deliver an SIU that unlocks capital without introducing new barriers. 📄 Read our letter to the Commissioner here: https://lnkd.in/eQXsNEvY 📄 Read our response to the European Commissions’ call for evidence here: https://lnkd.in/eNmwXKkV 📄 Read AIMA CEO Jack Inglis’ comment here: https://lnkd.in/e_Fd7T65

Despite being a long-standing risk management tool, Significant Risk Transfer (SRT’s) have faced concerns over transparency, regulatory capital impact, and systemic risk—yet many critiques overlook the safeguards already in place. Jiri Krol’s latest article in Private Debt Investor challenges the growing scrutiny around SRT and addresses common misconceptions about the market. Jiri explains how: - SRTs operate within a strict regulatory framework, with banks required to notify regulators and disclose transactions publicly. - SRTs genuinely transfer credit risk, reducing risk-weighted assets and strengthening capital ratios. - The market has remained resilient, with transactions continuing even during periods of financial stress. Rather than questioning their legitimacy, policymakers should recognise the essential role of SRTs in supporting bank stability and responsible credit expansion.
