Earlier this month, Kelly Buggy and Ashley Hayes attended ELRIG UK Drug Discovery 2024. The event had a fantastic turnout, showcasing the broad range of technologies and approaches innovating drug discovery. A particular highlight for us was the ELRIG Breakthrough Zone. This section of the exhibitor hall was dedicated to start-up companies that are making waves in the industry. In this zone, emerging companies had booths and were invited to give company flash presentations, giving insight into how their offerings are driving drug discovery forward. Particular highlights for us included: • Abselion – Amperia benchtop system that quantifies antibodies, AAVs and other proteins directly from crude samples in as little as 1 minute per sample. • Magnitude Biosciences Ltd – CRO with expertise in designing customised C. elegans studies to address specific ageing questions, and integrating C. elegans into drug discovery pipelines. • ARRAYS FOR CELL NANODEVICES, SL - A4CELL – Lab-in-a-cell devices that are based on SPAchip® technology. These are intracellular silicon microchips that can monitor cellular pathways in real time. • NexMR AG – Benchtop NMR instrument that enhances the speed and sensitivity of hit discovery and characterisation. • Semarion – Unique microcarrier platform that revolutionises the speed and quality of adherent cell screening. This looks like a great free-to-attend event for life science professionals! Coming up soon in London!👇
Research works best when researchers from different fields combine forces and when universities, hospitals and industry are able to collaborate. In Europe’s leading science clusters, these kinds of collaborations are second nature. At the Kadans Innovation Summit, on the 14th November in London, you’ll get the chance to meet leading researchers, entrepreneurs, and innovators from these science clusters who are pushing the boundaries of life sciences. Share ideas, spark collaborations, and be a part of the movement shaping a healthier tomorrow. Join to hear the amazing and groundbreaking stories of keynote speakers such as Prof. Peter J. van der Spek, Professor Bioinformatics at EramusMC, and Prof. Louise Jones, Professor of Breast Pathology, Barts Health NHS Trust and Lead of Breast Pathology Research Group in Centre for Tumour Biology, Barts Cancer Institute (Queen Mary University of London). Moreover, the event will be covering an array of compelling topics, such as: • The Next Frontier in Cancer Research: Emerging Therapies and Technologies with Paris Saclay Cancer Cluster (PSCC), Vivan Therapeutics, Erasmus MC, and others. • Innovative Insights: The Role of Data & AI in Life Sciences with REPROCELL Europe, Barts Health NHS Trust, IMU Biosciences and Living Laboratory, University of Glasgow. • From Cells to Genes: Advancements in Regenerative Medicine with The UK Stem Cell Foundation, P4 Precision Medicine Accelerator, P4 Clinical, and Innovation Center for Advanced Therapies (ICAT). • Driving Innovation in European Life Sciences Manufacturing with leaders from AstraZeneca, OneSC, Sai Life Sciences Ltd, and Pfizer We’re proud to support Kadans Science Partner with the event and we will be moderating the Driving Innovation In European Life Sciences Manufacturing panel. Interested in attending this invite only event, contact Samuel Thangiah or Christopher Watt for more information. https://lnkd.in/eD4YShiA

Collaboration in science 👨🔬🤝👩🔬 It’s been a busy couple of weeks since one of the biggest events in our industry - ELRIG UK Drug Discovery 2024. A particular highlight for me (aside from the coronation chickpea sandwiches!) was a really great panel discussion in the Tech Theatre on collaboration following a series of talks on the theme of Robotics, Automation, Data and AI: Driving Innovations and Key Applications in Drug Discovery. We all know how important collaboration is in drug discovery – and indeed all scientific research. This discussion really focused on why it’s vital in the case of robotics, automation, data and AI in order to make the greatest impact, as well as covering some practical advice on how to kickstart conversations to help drive collaborative efforts. Here's a quick summary: ❔ The why: Nobody has all the expertise needed to develop these complex workflows and platforms in their entirety. Collaborating on different ways of working, and working closer to disciplinary boundaries allows you to see the full power of a technology or platform. ❔ The how: Social courage is key - whether that’s within large organisations or at events like ELRIG where contacts and connections rely on putting yourself out there and starting conversations with people. At the end of the day, we’re all looking to make progress. It could be as simples as: “This is what I know” “This is what I don’t know” “How can we help each other to solve xyx?” Thanks to the great speakers and panellists in this section for the info and advice - Anna Paola Carrieri (Technical research manager and senior research scientist at IBM Research UK), Markus Gershater (CSO and cofounder at Synthace), and Zoe Hughes-Thomas who leads the Discovery Automation team within Large Molecule Discovery at GSK in Stevenage.

📰 This week, it was announced that a new Cell Therapy Lab is set to open within the next 18 months at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, led by a team of world-class researchers and clinicians. The lab will offer personalized, and potentially less toxic cancer treatments including CAR-T cell therapy. The CAR-T cell therapy program at Addenbrooke's Hospital is already transforming lives for patients who have exhausted all other treatment options. 🙌 An example is Lisa Noble, 58, who after four rounds of failed chemotherapy was given just weeks left to live. Within just 3 months of the treatment, Lisa was remarkably cancer-free, and still remains free of the disease to this day. So far, over 100 patients have received CAR-T cell therapy at Addenbrooke's Hospital. The opening of the lab aims to further improve access to these therapies, and enable the development of novel cell therapy treatments for cancers and other diseases. 👉 Read the news story in full here: https://lnkd.in/ep9buQJB #scicomms #celltherapy #breakthroughs

It's been a busy first day already at ELRIG UK's Drug Discovery 2024! We've seen some great flash company presentations in the Breakthrough Zone Theatre (and particularly enjoyed the talks from Magnitude Biosciences Ltd and Oria Bioscience), spoken to some of our lovely clients, and seen some exciting new technologies on the exhibition floor 🧪 If you're here too then Kelly Buggy and Ashley Hayes would love a chat - look out for them and say hi 👋
