On the podcast this week, Sarah talks about hearing advice from Carolyn McCall that we should "stay in roles a bit longer" because at the top of the learning curve, where we feel confident in our role, is often where we can make the biggest impact. Inspired by this, our theme for the week is how to stay and grow in your role. In a Squiggly Career, growth doesn’t always mean a promotion. Success can also look like growing where you are and enjoying what you do. In the episode, Helen and Sarah dive into three key areas: 🌱 Focusing on your in-role impact 🌱 Growing by growing others 🌱 Practicing your positioning 🎧 Listen to the full episode by subscribing to ‘Squiggly Careers’ available wherever you listen to podcasts. 🎥 Or you can now also watch our conversation on YouTube: https://lnkd.in/edbJEwE8 #SquigglyCareers #CareersDevelopment #CareerGrowth ----- 💡 Listen and learn. • Did you know Squiggly Careers started on a napkin? 🌀 In 2013, we were reflecting on how our careers had changed since our first jobs. We realised that careers weren’t linear anymore—the career ladder was gone, and in its place was the squiggly career. Sarah thinks in visuals and drew the first squiggle on a napkin to capture the idea. Helen thinks in actions and created a slide to share with people and get feedback. 12 years later, what started as an idea has helped thousands navigate their own squiggly journeys. We continue to learn, grow and improve because of the community that shares our work and gets in touch to help us get better. Thank you for being part of our squiggly journey! #SquigglyCareers #SquigglyCommunity

  • It’s day five of our Squiggly Career Stage series! Today we’re talking about Career Continuers—people who are rethinking retirement and exploring what a later-life career could look like for them 🌱 By 2050, it is projected that one in six workers will be over the age of 65 (source: OECD) and improving career choices for mid-career and older workers is critical. However, older workers often face age discrimination, a lack of role opportunity, and a loss of self-confidence. Squiggly at this stage needs a lot of extra support. In today’s episode, Sarah and Helen talk to: 🌍 Avivah Wittenberg-Cox, a thought leader on gender and generational balance. 📊 Andrew Aitken Aitken, Economist at the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. They share insights and practical ideas to help people at this stage. 👉 Swipe to read or download our Squiggly Careers guide for career continuers where you can also read expert insight's from Lyndsey Simpson, founder of 55/Redefined. 🎧 Listen to the full episode on Squiggly Careers available wherever you listen to podcasts.
