Quick answer to this one: probably not. But the WHO is still compiling evidence to learn more about how radio frequency electromagnetic field exposure impacts our health. Interesting, but we’re glad we don’t have to add mobile phones to our fertility concerns list. That said, we did speak with our fertility specialist Dr. Vivienne Hall to learn about what actually can impact our fertility. She told us to watch out for just three simple things: 🥚 Avoid waiting to use or freeze your eggs 🚭 Don’t smoke or vape 🍩 Avoid ultra processed foods Easier said than done, but also easier than escaping radio waves. We’ll take it. 

Having access to egg freezing is a privilege–and it’s not something we take for granted. Though we would love to see finance and fertility benefits in the UK expand, we understand that fertility options–specifically women’s fertility options–are still being fought for across the globe. Our hearts break for single women in China who aren’t permitted to freeze their eggs due to marital status, for anyone who can’t afford fertility services they so desperately need, and for the inequitable distribution of access to women’s health options. Amilis is still small, but our dreams are big, and our strength is mighty. Our goal is to become a champion in women’s health, to increase access to services, and to make sure women get the options, treatment, and care we deserve. The road ahead is long–but we have no plans to stop until the work is done.

According to the NIH, up to 60 percent of people dealing with fertility challenges report higher levels of anxiety and depression. And, not going to lie, we think the number might be even higher. From blood draws to ultrasounds to hormone injections–going through fertility treatments is an extremely mentally, emotionally, and physically taxing process. The heavy financial cost of the procedures often leave little room for error, and the stress mounts. That’s why we’re oh-so-glad to see that the popular mental health and meditation app Headspace is releasing new content–specifically for those struggling with fertility. We hope the discussion surrounding fertility and mental health continues to grow and gain traction, as we’ve been suffering in silence for too long. We wanted to take a moment to share some behind-the-scenes from an incredible experience. Our amazing co-founder, Yasmin Baba gave her first TEDx talk at TEDxWoodLane today. She was definitely feeling the nerves, but we knew she would absolutely shine on stage — and she did just that! ✨✨✨ What’s even more special is how this opportunity came about. We were discussing as a team how important it is to share our message about the gender health gap, and then *bam*, the TEDx opportunity appeared. It’s proof that when you believe in something, things start to align. Yasmin’s talk was powerful, shedding light on how women’s health — particularly in reproductive health — is deeply under-researched and underfunded. It was a privilege to watch her bring this vital conversation to such a great platform and obvi she smashed itt!! Incredibly proud of my sister, Yasmin Baba, for absolutely smashing her TEDx talk this morning! What an inspiration. It’s been eye-opening to learn more about the female health data gap and how much there’s still to uncover about women’s health due to the historical lack of research and data centered on women. Did you know that women are 50% more likely than men to be misdiagnosed when having a heart attack? Largely because they often present with atypical symptoms that differ from the “classic” male-centered heart attack signs! But we’re starting to see these data gaps shift, and Yasmin and her team at Amilis are at the forefront of this movement, redefining women’s health needs and empowering women to take control of their wellbeing. They say the top five people in your life shape who you are, and I’m beyond grateful to have such smart and inspiring people, like my sister, in mine.
