    Dozens of bills related to regulating artificial intelligence are currently floating around the US Congress, and they’re pretty varied. One aims to improve knowledge of #AI in public schools, while another is pushing for model developers to disclose what copyrighted material they use in their training. Three deal with mitigating AI robocalls, while two address biological risks from AI. There’s even a bill that prohibits AI from launching a nuke on its own. In this edition of What’s Next in Tech, make sense of what all of these bills suggest about the future of regulating artificial intelligence.

  • A very hot topic on AI vs control theory. Historical context is important to understand where this has all come from. We are definitely entering into a new era where we think combining control theory, physics-based models and AI, or a hybrid approach is going to be very powerful.

  • Following on from ASM's previous post (https://lnkd.in/epY7DtyS) about the benefits of using AI, arguably the most powerful tool in the world to bring your industrial process or minerals processing plant to the next level, a more modern approach has been developed. Using physics-informed neural networks, first principles-based model equations can be included in a way where the AI agent embeds this knowledge into its learning capability. This means the agent has the ability to learn the process without disturbing the actual plant, yet makes it much less erroneous when making predictions with real-plant data it hasn't ever seen before. ASM's approach has always been to use first principles-based models as the go to method. However, recent developments in AI and machine learning (ML) have many advantages given their shear computational power with big data. One very traditional ML approach is having an AI agent that learns from its environment. ASM's ability to bring fit-for-purpose physics-based models for the agent to learn from means the agent has the ability learn the process without disturbing the actual plant.
