Professional skills development for RSEs specialising in HPC. The UNIVERSE-HPC project worked to define training frameworks for Research Software Engineers (RSE) specialising in HPC. Its underlying goal was to enable more people from a wide diversity of disciplines and backgrounds to obtain the skills and experience required for a successful RSE career. In her article, EPCC's Weronika Filinger reviews this collaboration between The University of Edinburgh, University of Oxford, University of Southampton and Imperial College London and looks to the future. https://ow.ly/laHH50VfoVb Society of Research Software Engineering Neil Chue Hong Kirsty Pringle Simon Hettrick David Gavaghan Martin Robinson Fergus Cooper Eirini Zormpa Steve Crouch

The Software Sustainability Institute has received £4.8m from UK Research and Innovation to launch the Research Software Maintenance Fund. Many researchers rely on software but it can be difficult for the people and projects developing it to find resources to maintain or update it. This funding is designed to help sustain key research software, ensuring it is reliable and accessible. This new initiative will play a crucial role in strengthening research software maintenance in the UK, ensuring essential tools remain available to the research community. https://edin.ac/4byDiID
