AI in Schools: Empowering Teachers or Risking Pupil Privacy? ⚠ After the insightful #DPPC event put on by the Information Commissioner's Office on Tuesday, we caught an interesting discussion on BBC Radio 4 yesterday morning about the potential of AI to assist teachers by automating tasks such as setting homework tailored to each student’s abilities. AI technologies have the power to really shake up the education system, improving students' learning experiences and saving teachers time - allowing them to focus on student development. 📚 But with great power comes great responsibility! As AI tools start to process more sensitive data, the risks to students' privacy increase, so compliance with the GDPR Principles becomes ever more crucial. Schools must make sure that proper safeguards are in place to protect students’ personal information and Privacy rights. and that means carrying out thorough, risk-based DPIAs (Data Protection Impact Assessments), then implementing suitable controls that can be monitored and regularly reviewed.
