"How does MechSlip actually install on-site—and why does it matter?" Plenty of systems claim to save time. However, MechSlip’s value lies in its installation. This isn’t a cladding concept—it’s a tried and tested system using real clay brick slips, designed for repeatable, efficient installation. Here’s how it works: 1) Carrier rails fixed to the backing structure Installed directly to a suitable substrate—lightweight framing, concrete or blockwork. No wet trades are needed at this stage. 2) Real brick slips clipped in mechanically These aren’t imitation panels—they’re genuine brick slips, cut from standard facing bricks. Each slip mechanically locks into horizontal rails. 3) Slips installed course by course Installers work in a clean sequence, achieving consistent daily rates of 10–12 m² per day, typically with two operatives. 4) Pointing is applied once slips are fixed Yes—MechSlip still needs to be pointed. But because the bed and perp joints are pre-defined by the rail spacing, the pointing is cleaner, faster, and more consistent than traditional brickwork. 5) No curing time, no waiting around Pointing can follow immediately—no delay between brickwork and finishing. And because it's a dry-fix system, there's no downtime for weather-related curing issues. Why it matters: * Scaffold can come down earlier * Work can be sequenced more predictably * Labour requirements are lower and easier to plan * Installers don’t need bricklaying skills—just training on the system * Snagging and rework are reduced Same bricks. Eddington Lot S2 Cambridgeshire, 4 new residential blocks, progress photos Cladding in ppc aluminium, and Mechslip with GRC features to Block A 13.5tn carbon saved using low carbon recycle grade aluminium subgrid The £55m, 373-home development is a part of the larger Eddington community, future home to 8,500 people. Eddington is being developed in collaboration with Cambridge University. The new district provides modern, affordable homes for University staff and key workers, with 1,500 homes for sale on the open market. The cladding contract for Lot S2 comprises aluminium ppc panels for the 4 blocks, in addition to Mechslip brickslip bays with GRC features in Portland Shade on Block A. The 4-5 storey buildings have all been designed and built to the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 5, BREEAM Excellent and the new Part L Building Regulations, with the new homes producing at least 31% less carbon emissions. By using Hydro low carbon, #recycle grade 4.0 aluminium for the subgrid, supplied by RJ Facade Systems, over 13.5 tonnes of embodied carbon were saved compared with standard European aluminium. It’s Women in Construction Week, and we want to recognise three people who make a significant impact at Aquarian Cladding Systems Ltd. Glynis Ritchie, Jazz Rigden, and Emma Gilbert are not only excellent at their jobs – they’re also a pleasure to work with and a big part of what makes our team better. On 1 September 2023, Jazz became Managing Director of Aquarian Cladding Systems, following her time as Sales Director. Since joining the business in 2015 as Technical Sales Manager for the South of England, Jazz has been a key part of our growth, helping build strong customer relationships and shaping how we work today. Jazz’s promotion is a clear example of Aquarian’s focus on developing talent from within and creating a smooth, long-term leadership transition. Her industry knowledge, experience, and understanding of our customers make her well-placed to lead the business into its next chapter. As we continue to grow and respond to the pressures of the industry, Jazz is central to keeping us focused on delivering for our customers, supporting our team, and building a successful future. Emma has been part of Aquarian Cladding Systems since 2019 and is key in managing our accounts, credit control, and sales order processing. She works closely with customers and suppliers to keep everything running smoothly, always with accuracy and patience. Alongside her day-to-day work, Emma is committed to supporting mental health in the workplace. She completed her Mental Health First Aid training in 2024 and is one of Aquarian’s Mental Health First Aiders. Emma helps create an environment where people feel comfortable talking and getting support when needed. Emma is a trusted and valued part of the team, balancing the demands of credit control and account management while helping to support the well-being of those around her. Glynis joined Aquarian Cladding Systems in 2022, bringing a wealth of industry experience. Before joining Aquarian, she served as Specification Development Manager at Ash & Lacy for three years and as Façade, High Rise, and offsite Modular Project Coordinator at A. Proctor Group Ltd. In her role at Aquarian, Glynis heads up Commercial and Sales Support, managing enquiries, coordinating project information, and ensuring clear communication among all stakeholders.
