In an update, the chapter content to be written by Nigerian climate justice activist Gbadema Solomon Ofure has been confirmed. With some mentoring input from Arkbound, Gbadema will be writing on the potential ecological transformation of Nigerian society, including a focus on the empowerment of local communities, the empowerment of women, the appropriate use of technology, and a short section asking what can be learnt from the history of the resistance of the Ogoni people against Shell Oil. Gbadema will also look at how Nigerian society can be more resilient against global shocks caused by the climate crisis, ecological overshoot and the ongoing decline of global industrial civilization. Gbadema`s chapter will be carefully balanced against other chapters in the book, including the introductory chapter by British activist climate scientist Professor Bill McGuire, and the Australian socioecological justice platform Just Collapse. Arkbound takes very seriously the platforming of global south voices, understanding that global problems call for global responses, and that moreover, global south countries are the least responsible for our modern human ecological predicament. It is with great pleasure that we welcome a Nigerian, Gbadema Solomon Ofure, to this volume. Nigeria has the largest English-speaking population of all the countries in Africa, so we know that Gbadema`s essay will be spread far and wide. Calling All UK Writers! Arkbound’s Latest Competition & Collection 🌿✏ Exploring Scottish Natural Landscapes, Cultural Heritage, and Environmental Preservation Arkbound invites UK writers and poets to participate in their latest competition which explores the historical significance and cultural emphasis on Scotland’s natural landscapes. Participants are encouraged to submit works of poetry and prose, analysing and reflecting on Scottish landscape, its hand in shaping national identity, environmental preservation, biodiversity, urban pollution. We are interested in reviewing submissions exploring… ➡ Landscape memory: How the landscape holds collective memory, how historical events and environmental changes are etched into the landscape, and how these memories shape contemporary Scottish identity. ➡ Intangible cultural heritage: Culture passed through generations, tied to the landscape—from oral storytelling, traditional music, and landscape-based skills (such as peat cutting)—and how these traditions are preserved, adapted, or lost. ➡ Urban & rural landscapes: Tension between development and preservation, including how modern infrastructure can either threaten or integrate with the greater natural landscape. Arkbound Executives will review all submitted pieces and select 10-30 pieces (based on the number of submissions received and total length of submitted pieces). All selected authors will receive a copy of the published collection. Entry Fee: £8 Genre(s): Contemporary landscape writing, poetry (<4,500 words) We look forward to publishing pieces written in or inspired by contemporary landscape style emphasising the relationship between self and place, nature and culture.
