We're excited to be partnering with The Eyes Have It for Westminster Eye Health Day, funded by Roche. It has been a great opportunity to engage with MPs on eye health issues and secure political support for a national plan for eye care, which will tackle the growing demand for eye care services and improve outcomes for patients.
About us
The Association of Optometrists (AOP) is the voice of the optical profession, representing over 80% of practising optometrists. We work for our student and qualified members; promoting the profession, protecting current and future qualified professionals, and championing eye health across the UK. The impact optometrists make on eye health every day is profound; caring for the UK’s vision, and detecting health conditions and disease at preventative stage. We provide educational resources for members whatever their career path, and shape the future of eye care for patients with our policy and external affairs work.

Legal case study: a quick result for a locum member A locum member carried out work for a large optical group on several occasions. A number of his invoices were unpaid. When he contacted us he’d been chasing payments for over a year and was owed around £1650. We reviewed documentation (including the contract and the invoices). We sent him our template letter for locums which also contains advice for locums and reviewed his draft response, advising on amendments. About a month after we advised him, the member informed us that he’d had a very positive outcome; his employer had paid him in full within a week of receiving the letter. He told us it was the ‘perfect result’. 😊 Read more case studies here: https://lnkd.in/dA-2Qpb #locumoptom #locumoptometrist #optometry #optometrists #optom #ukoptometrists #Optics #Eyecare

Our Chief Executive, Adam Sampson, shared the need for regular vision checks as a mandatory part of licence application and renewal, in Birmingham Live. We have long argued for changes in the assessment of motorists' vision, and the launch of this new research on the growing issue of headlight glare experienced on UK roads, further highlights why the rules around vision standards for driving need a broader review.
