A few weeks ago, we welcomed Kirsty, a local teacher, to Barkers to shadow our employees and gain insight into the career paths we offer. This week, we had the pleasure of hosting another teacher, this time from an IT Engineering background, who spent time across different departments to explore another angle of engineering within our industry. These experiences provide valuable first-hand knowledge that teachers can take back to their students, helping to bridge the gap between education and industry. We’re proud to offer opportunities like this and showcase the wide range of careers in engineering and manufacturing! Year 2 of being an Association of Fencing Industries (AFI) member! Following seeing all the great work AFI do to support the fencing industry in our first year as a member, we are a member again for a second year🤝 We look forward to FenceX in October, where we will be exhibiting and testing some of our products with the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) The AFI awards will also be held in November! We are happy to be a member for a second year and look forward to the events ahead!

During National Apprenticeship Week a couple of weeks ago, Karen Barker organised for us to welcome Kirsty from a local school to work-shadow a variety of the employees here at Barkers👥 Kirsty took the opportunity to learn about the various job roles that there are within Barkers and to understand more on the benefits of apprenticeships. It was a great opportunity to give some insight into Barkers employee roles and we are glad Kirsty found it valuable and enjoyable, thank you for coming in!🤝

Work Experience is not just for school pupils, it is an enriching experience at any stage of a career. Kirsty Wilson, Head of Science at The King's CofE Academy, has spent a day at Barkers Fencing. Simon Watts CMgr FCMI welcomed Kirsty and arranged for her to work-shadow several roles in the company. Mrs Wilson said, as well as learning about the wide variety of job roles that are needed for an international company to flourish, she gained a much better insight into the benefits of apprenticeships. She learned that they are not only the next step after school, but that they also give a clear route for progression further into a career. Kirsty can now also take back her experience to use in the classroom to help weave into enriching the teaching curriculum for the benefit of students and to support in preparing them with work-ready skills.
