Discover our forest-making techniques and be part of the movement to create a more biodiverse, resilient city. Let’s grow a greener future together! This project will transform the Newham Hospital west entrance into a lush, green space, offering a peaceful, welcoming space that will be used by both patients and staff. The addition of these green spaces will not only enhance the aesthetic of the area but also serve as a habitat for local biodiversity. The trees will provide a natural canopy, creating a calming environment and surrounding visitors with vibrant colours throughout the seasons. Additionally, these trees will play an essential role in improving air quality by absorbing carbon dioxide, releasing oxygen, and cooling the surrounding environment, promoting a healthier space for all who visit. 🧬 New DNA approach helps to fight infections in record time In a UK-first, we've worked with Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency to develop a DNA sequencing approach that has been implemented in our hospitals so we can diagnose bacterial infections faster and accurately. The approach delivers results within two days, significantly faster than traditional methods which can take around seven days and, in some difficult cases, up to eight weeks. Ian Butler, DipRCPath lead clinical scientist in medical microbiology, said: “By analysing bacterial genetic material directly, we can detect infections more accurately, even complex infections, and much faster than traditional methods. This means we can precisely diagnose the infection and identify the right treatment sooner — especially for critically ill patients." Special thanks also goes to the National Measurement Laboratory, and United Kingdom Accreditation Services (UKAS) as part of the Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Programme. The bacterial outbreak sequencing work was delivered through a funding grant from Barts Charity. Learn more 👉 https://lnkd.in/e8airP3M

A trial, of which Barts Health was a lead clinical site, has looked at the link between Crohn’s and food additive emulsifiers. Led by researchers at King’s College London, results from the ADDapt trial have shown that people with Crohn’s disease were three times more likely to see improvement of their symptoms when cutting out emulsifiers from their diet. Participants also found that their symptoms were twice as likely to go into remission, where their disease symptoms disappeared.
