⭐️ Just as the UK schools are stopping for half-term we have also had our first report card of the academic year, and are proud to show that we have received four gold stars! 🌱 Our injection moulding pellets have successfully passed all four home compostability (EN13432) tests! Including investigations into their biodegradability, disintegration, ecotoxicity and full material analysis. 👓 You can see our pellets disappear in front of your eyes (image 1), followed by both barley (image 2) and sunflower (image 3) flourishing in compost containing our degraded pellets. 🍊 A huge result for the FlexSea extrusion team with our material passing the threshold for the first two tests in half the allocated time, and breaking down faster than orange or banana peels, all while still offering an 18-24 month shelf life! 📞 If you’d like to hear more about how our next generation bioplastics can deliver a cleaner, greener option for your business then please get in touch with us via the comments, our LinkedIn DMs or via our website (www.flex-sea.com). #FlexSea #EN13432 #climatetech #innovation #sustainability #bioplastics #product #processing #packaging #manufacturing #circular #technology #seaweed #biomaterials #compostable

💚💚Massive thank you to the wonderful iCAST (Innovation Centre for Applied Sustainable Technologies) for becoming the latest sponsor of the upcoming BBIA Demeter Awards💚💚 The Innovation Centre for Applied Sustainable Technologies (iCAST) is a unique collaboration set to deliver agile #innovation in #green, #sustainable #technologies. Bringing together experts across all the innovation stages, it focusses on bringing together industry and academia to translate discoveries into commercial application. They aim to develop new ways to extract the greatest value from a variety of #sustainable #chemical #feedstocks, for example agricultural and manufacturing waste and other emerging potential feedstocks such as #plastics and #seaweed. Turning these waste streams and feedstocks into value-added chemicals is a key step in developing a circular economy, and it also prevents losing their already rich functionality. To integrate renewable feedstocks into supply chains as alternatives to fossil fuels, this programme looks into challenges such as designing effective catalytic processes, being able to work with mixed and impure feedstocks, and developing or predicting specific properties from renewable resource upgrading. 🚫🚫Single-use Vapes Ban to be introduced from 1 June 2025🚫🚫 The Government laid legislation before Parliament to restrict the sale and supply of #singleuse #vapes in England from 1 June 2025. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀? 🚫From 1 June 2025, selling and supplying single-use vapes will no longer be allowed across the UK. The Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish Governments will also be introducing equivalent legislation, with the same implementation date of 1 June 2025. 🚫Single-use vapes are devices that cannot be refilled or recharged and are often thrown away or littered instead of recycled. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗱? 🚫Single-use vapes do not last long and are hard to recycle. Industry research estimates that nearly five million single-use vapes are thrown away every week. 🚫This equates to the lithium batteries of 5,000 electric vehicles each year. When not disposed of properly, these vapes can also cause fires at waste handling sites. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗱? 🚫Trading Standards will enforce the ban within each local area. They will use civil penalties, as set out under the Regulatory Enforcement and Sanctions Act 2008.

We welcome the inclusion of soil-biodegradable mulch films, coating agents, and water retention polymers in the EU Fertilising Products Regulation (#FPR) and the key role given to existing standards concerning the biodegradation of mulch films in soil. The newly defined #biodegradability criteria are strict but scientifically sound and will fully demonstrate that certified soil-biodegradable mulch films are environmentally safe while contributing to soil health and soil fertility. “The inclusion paves the way for further investments, innovation, and research in this field which strongly relates to a #circular #bioeconomy” says Hasso von Pogrell, EUBP's Managing Director.
