We recently asked how many people you think still rely on harmful biomass fuels for cooking in continental Africa. 🍳🌍 66% of you estimated 850 million or below. We wish that were true. In reality, 1 billion people, about four in five on the continent, still depend on polluting fuels like charcoal, firewood, and agricultural waste according to the International Energy Agency (IEA). This leads to severe health issues, particularly for women and children exposed to indoor air pollution, as well as significant environmental damage and loss of productive time spent by families gathering fuel. At Bboxx, we’re dedicated to addressing this through affordable, clean cooking solutions. Earlier this year, we announced our plans to scale our clean cooking efforts with TotalEnergies marketing Rwanda. Through the combination of Bboxx’s pay-as-you-go technology and TotalEnergies’ LPG cylinders, this roll-out is expected to impact many lives in Rwanda and beyond, ensuring that cooking is no longer a daily health risk for families. 🙌 #CleanCooking #SDG7

It’s 2025 and here at Bboxx, we are entering a critical period: with just 5 years left to achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), we remain focused on transforming lives across sub-Saharan Africa. Energy poverty still affects over 600 million people in the region. At Bboxx, we know urgent action is required to address this, so here’s what Bboxx can expect to see in 2025 and beyond: ‣ Scaling Renewable Energy Solutions ‣ Expanding access to solar home systems and e-mobility solutions ‣ Increasing provision of clean cooking facilities in alignment with the SDGs ‣ Building on our impact: Bboxx currently provides 14% of Rwanda's electricity via solar power – and we’re determined to do more. ‣ Driving Progress in Core Markets ‣ Doubling down on key markets like Nigeria and Rwanda, supported by subsidy programmes ‣ Investing $100 million in Rwanda over the next 5 years to accelerate growth ‣ Advancing Technology and Innovation ‣ Leveraging AI to enhance credit scoring and optimise operations ‣ Expanding access to electric vehicles (EVs) and introducing our new EV insurance programme Later this month, CEO of Bboxx, Anthony Osijo will represent Bboxx at the Africa Heads of State Energy Summit in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This platform will help drive forward conversations on renewable energy. 💡 As we step into 2025, the work ahead is clear: powering progress, transforming lives, and creating a sustainable future for people and the planet. 🌱 #SDGs #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability

That’s a wrap! 🎁 As 2024 draws to a close, we’re reflecting on the incredible milestones we’ve achieved together this year. From clean cooking and carbon credits to AI innovation and e-mobility, we’ve been hard at work innovating and collaborating to transform lives across the African continent. We scaled many of our existing essential Pay-As-You-Go services to reach more families, including our clean cooking solutions through our partnership with TotalEnergies, providing access to clean, safe, and affordable cooking methods whilst looking out for the environment. 🍳 We also rolled out many new initiatives including the launch of our Gold Standard-certified Pan-African carbon credit programme which is expected to offset over 20 million tons of carbon emissions and generate $100M in carbon credits! 🥇 Another Bboxx debut was the harnessing of the power of AI to enhance our customer experience in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS). 🤖 And let’s not forget our first-ever insurance partnership with RADIANT YACU LTD, launching Bboxx Protect to make affordable, comprehensive insurance a reality for 130,000 electric motorbike riders across Rwanda, accelerating the transition to cleaner mobility while unlocking potential for underserved communities. 🏍️🌍 Finally, we solidified our commitment to being an Africa-first company when we officially moved our headquarters from London to Kigali, Rwanda, to continue to grow in the heart of the continent and bring us closer to the communities we serve. 🇷🇼 What a year. Thank you to all who have been on the journey with us. We can’t wait to keep #TransformingLives and #UnlockingPotential in 2025!

Is affordable insurance the secret ingredient for zooming towards an EV transition? 🛵🚀 We’re teaming with RADIANT YACU LTD to accelerate the #EV transition for 130,000 motorbike riders with affordable insurance! 👏 Bboxx Protect, our new transformative and very first insurance partnership, will offer comprehensive and affordable coverage for electric motorbike (EV) riders in Rwanda transforming the country’s insurance landscape by providing financial security previously out of reach for many motorbike users. 🏍️ Not only is the product an incentive for riders to switch from traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) bikes to EVs, being designed exclusively for electric motorcycles, but its unique data-backed pay-as-you-go model makes it an affordable option for motorbike owners who typically rely only on third-party coverage. This innovation saves riders up to 44% on insurance costs per year, allowing them to invest in other essential aspects of their lives and unlock their potential. 🙌 In crucially addressing Rwanda's low insurance penetration, we are making insurance both accessible and affordable for more people, whilst looking out for the planet. 🌍 As our CEO, Anthony Osijo, puts it; “With the launch of Bboxx Protect, we are doubling down on our commitment to serving existing markets while making affordable, comprehensive insurance accessible to motorbike riders who have long been underserved. By reducing financial risk and offering greater security, we’re empowering thousands of customers to protect their livelihoods while contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future.” Read the full story here: https://lnkd.in/eq6bGgaC

Shaping the Future of Solar Energy in Nigeria 🌍 Speaking on Business Morning on Channels TV, Ernest Akinlola, Managing Director of Bboxx Nigeria, shared insights into how solar energy is transforming communities across Nigeria. 💡 Rising Fuel Costs and the Shift to Solar With petrol prices soaring in recent years, the demand for alternative energy solutions has grown significantly. Solar power is proving to be a game-changer, and this is precisely where Bboxx is making a difference. ♻️ Environmental and Economic Benefits Solar energy not only benefits the environment but also supports SMEs, helping to drive the local economy across Sub-Saharan Africa. Bboxx's innovative solutions are empowering low-income earners with affordable, flexible payment options. 📚 Awareness and Adoption Many communities are now more aware of the benefits solar energy brings. Virtual payment plans allow individuals to pay as they use, with options for staggered payments or upfront payments. Additionally, Bboxx’s approach encourages natural referrals – as people see solar panels and appliances in their neighbours' homes, they are inspired to adopt these solutions too. 🤝 Partnership with the World Bank Through funding from the World Bank, Nigeria is seeing increased investments in renewable energy. Looking ahead to 2025, a new grant will enable further installations in rural areas. With higher subsidies for more remote regions, this initiative aims to significantly enhance energy access in Nigeria’s hinterlands. Thank you to Ladi Williams for hosting. Renewable energy is paving the way for greater social mobility and technological progress in Nigeria. 🙌 Watch the full interview here: https://lnkd.in/ebCPDZq9 #RenewableEnergy #SocialMobility #Technology

Division Manager leading E-Mobility innovation and sustainable business growth.

I was deeply honored to attend the FIA General Assemblies in Rwanda, the first time this event has graced African soil in 120 years. There, I had the privilege to see the presentation of the paper, "Developing Sustainable Mobility: Examples from Rwanda and China," to which I contributed. A big thank you to Alex K. and Maxime Teilleux, and the rest of the team at the Urban School of Sciences Po for their fantastic work on this project. Rwanda's role as a proof of concept nation for sustainable mobility was further emphasized by Teddy Mpinganzima Mugabo during her panel discussion on "Investing in Green Mobility." The discussions, including those with Sara Mariani, Saul Billingsley, and Eng. Eric Ntagengerwa (Msc, CIPM), highlighted the critical need for a 'just transition' in the transport sector. This transition should not only address environmental concerns but also ensure equity and inclusion for all stakeholders. I also had the unique opportunity to attend the FIA – Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner, where I witnessed Max Verstappen being crowned a 4x World Champion, joining an elite group of F1 legends with four or more titles. As we move forward, I am committed to being a strong voice for sustainable and just transport in Africa, a crucial step towards unlocking prosperity for our continent. Our innovative work at Bboxx, which is driving sustainable energy and mobility solutions across Africa, exemplifies the transformative potential we can achieve. Let's continue to drive change, ensuring that mobility solutions not only meet our environmental goals but also foster economic and social development across Africa. #SustainableMobility #JustTransition #GreenMobility #FIA2024 #ProsperityThroughTransport #FIAAwards2024 #Bboxx #Ride #FIA120 #VisitRwanda
