Today, I witnessed some remarkable changes in my Be Braver clients. Halfway through the Be Braver programme, they shared stories of insight, bold decisions, and transformative actions. Their shifts are extraordinary. Powerful and inspiring. Just like them. Proving that creating brave spaces truly sets the stage for change. I also had the privilege of speaking to over 100 creatives, sharing my own journey. One which began with a curiosity: what sets ordinary women apart from the extraordinary women of history, like the Pankhursts? The answer, I realised, is something we all possess—courage. When we pause to recognise our courage, it can ignite extraordinary changes in our lives. The women I work with are proof of this, and I feel privileged to walk alongside them as they rise and transform. Courage isn’t without its hardships. It’s doesn’t guarantee success. That juxtaposes choosing courage. We keep expectations real - seek nothing more than to be the best version of the self one can be. No more. No less. To travel well. Which actually, is a damn sight harder than we think it is and can mean we need to dig a little deeper than we might have figured we would. To lead, with integrity, meaningfully, intentionally, and to finding fulfilment. Leading in a way where we can inspire others to want to follow and create change with us. Collectively. For the greater good. When we see it, share it, recognise it - behold it. It’s is extraordinary. It creates ripples of change. Even your quiet courage. It’s making far bigger waves than you could imagine. So don’t stop. Keep on keeping on. And choose #courage. #culture #mindset #leadership #coaching #speaking

Perfectionism and leadership. Very different to excellence and leadership. Research findings shine a light on how the pressure to meet excessively high standards—whether self-imposed or from societal expectations—links to depression, mental health struggles, and is increasingly prevalent in young people. Every step toward progress, change, and growth begins with a leader who chooses to Be Braver. Leading with courage isn’t just about bold decisions; it’s about creating the conditions where your team feels empowered to take risks, innovate, and grow. Cultivating Courage in Teams To lead effectively through change, innovation, or closing performance gaps, leaders must: • Communicate with clarity. • Build strong connections. • Foster confidence and trust. • Choose courage over comfort. • Demonstrably be brave and courageous themselves Creating a culture where teams take intelligent risks requires: • Psychological safety: Teams need to feel safe to share ideas and make mistakes. • Trust: Building mutual respect between leaders and team members. • Vision and mission: Clear direction and purpose. • Motivation: Supporting teams to connect the benefits to them personally aswell as professionally in order to push beyond their comfort zones. Creating the conditions for teams to take intelligent risks requires psychological safety, trust, vision, mission and motivation. All the ingredients of a Be Braver mindset and practice. We all have what it takes to Be Braver , we all have more courage than we think - with the right models, tools and frameworks it isn’t just the results that we realise that are improved - it’s how we experience the stretch that transforms. #mindset #leadership #teams #growth #learninganddevelopment

'The Authority Gap' has come to be a recognised descriptor in many meetings, offices and teams. That recognisable disparity in how men and women are perceived and treated in positions of authority. Despite women’s qualifications or expertise, they often face unconscious bias, leading to their opinions being undervalued, their authority questioned, and their leadership abilities underestimated compared to their male counterparts. In a world where women disproportionately find themselves battling for recognition, Mary Ann pointed out that many of us—women and men alike—have grown up in an environment that instinctively associates authority with masculinity. This deeply ingrained bias resonates through our everyday interactions and is the focus of the Mary Ann Seighart's book. Have you ever noticed how your first thought about a leader was shaped by their gender? Understanding the Bias Mary Ann highlighted a compelling analogy—male privilege is like swimming in a river with the current. Those who swim against it, the women, often struggle in ways that are invisible to those benefiting from the flow. This view helped to illustrate why many women find it difficult to see themselves in roles of authority and to navigate the challenges that come with them. “How often do we feel we must tone down our assertiveness to maintain likability?” It’s disheartening to acknowledge that women still juggle the burden of being competent while simultaneously being perceived as approachable. 🐡 There seems to be a theme emerging to do with Goldfish in my writing and sketching this week. ⚡️Still related to courage, and also The Authority Gap - I seemingly can connect anything and everything to courage. If you'd like to read, listen and see more about this weeks shift: from cat and lionesses to slippery little fish - be sure to subscribe. The Authority Gap issue is out tomorrow. 🌊Publications are coming thick and fast for some reason - so I'm riding the wave while it lasts. Must be something in the water. ⚡️Don't forget there is the Be Braver Create Connection virtual meet up next week. Do come along and find out more about the forthcoming masterclasses, practitioner programmes or anything else you want to ask me. quietcourage.substack.com #creative #ideas #fishedin #courage #authoritygap #womenindata #womenintech
