Women are hugely under-represented in the Data industry – as things stand, male Analysts and Data Scientists outnumber their female colleagues 4 to 1. Addressing this imbalance isn’t just the right thing to do ethically. Data shows that everything from workplace satisfaction, to business profitability significantly improve when an organisation strives for greater diversity and inclusivity. Women in Data® plays a key role in driving for more accurate representation wherever data is being gathered and analysed. We provide the platform that allows professionals at all levels to share their knowledge and experience, while working alongside businesses to help them embrace and develop the enormous advantages generated by diversity. The changes we’re affecting are cultural and systemic. Offering everything from professional networking and knowledge transfer, to our Women’s Health Commission, Women’s Safety Commission, MenopauseX and Girls in Data initiative. Our work is creating measurable impact for the partners we support and the community we host.

What makes a successful data leader?✨ Claire Thompson, Group Chief Data and Analytics Officer (CDAO) at financial services firm Legal & General, shares her insights and passion for data. Data is “the new oil” or the “crown jewels” of an organisation.👑 “Data touches everything. At the organisations where I’ve worked, I’ve had an opportunity to make a difference with data – to help businesses make decisions faster and improve the customer experience,” she says. According to Claire, successful data leaders have a range of facets: → Working closely with the business → Building strong relationships with stakeholders → Delivering data-led projects aligned with the underlying business strategy “You need to understand the issues the stakeholders want to overcome and how data will help support that process,” “It’s easy to build solutions, but unless you tie it back into what the business is trying to achieve, it makes it difficult to tell the story of why data creates value for the organisation.” Claire describes herself as a passionate advocate of diversity and inclusion.❤️ “You get much better results in your solutions,” she says. “It’s much harder to manage teams with diverse thoughts and opinions. Embracing Flexibility with Lloyds Banking Group's Flex Summer Policy🌞 This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to take full advantage of the Policy, which allows colleagues to remote work. This thoughtful initiative is not just a testament to the company's commitment to flexibility and work-life balance. It provided the perfect balance between professional responsibilities and personal life. I was able to seamlessly integrate my work commitments with quality time spent with friends, family, and my dear pets. I valued the long summer days, enjoying earlier morning walks and runs with pets, and evenings catching up with friends. I am incredibly grateful for such a forward-thinking policy. It has enhanced my productivity after a busy year being a data driven organisation and re-platforming to Google. In terms of transitioning to data, the panel discussion focussed on the power of softer skills. Today, I had the opportunity to attend an incredible meetup - Career Transition Panel & Introduction to DataOps/Devops. I’ve been concerned about my career transition, but attending today’s meetup was a game-changer. Thank you Masha Budryte and Arun Bonam for your informative and precise presentation on the importance of DevOps and Data Engineering. The panel featuring Vicky Pike, Rachel Escott (she/her), and Manca Vitorino left me inspired and more confident. Their valuable advice on career transitions, soft skill development, and effective leverage during gaps was truly impactful. It was an honour to learn from such experienced professionals.
