As the UK's oldest fine wine and spirits merchant, we've built up a lot of experience in helping people build some of the world's best cellars. But we're also always looking for new ways to do this - and this autumn, we're delighted to announce the start of a very special service.  We'll be launching our first-ever auction, giving collectors across the world the chance to acquire rare and iconic bottles, available with a competitive 20% Buyer's Premium. The auction will be run entirely online, and is open to all - whether you're a current Berry Bros. & Rudd customer or not. More information on this brand-new auction will be announced very soon. And just like that, over 100 of us crossed the finish line of our 100km English Wine Walk at 6pm on Saturday.   A big thank you to Rathfinny Wine Estate, Wiston Estate and Hambledon Vineyard for your incredible hospitality and volunteers, as well as to those who joined us from Liberty Wines Ltd, Giovanni Rosso winery and Zeus Sports Group - we couldn't have done it without you. Our legs and feet may be sore today, but it was certainly worth it - we've blown our fundraising target out of the water, with the latest count coming to nearly £170,000 raised for My Name'5 Doddie Foundation. There's still time to show your support if you would like via the link in the first comment – every penny we raise brings us one step closer to finding a cure for Motor Neuron Disease.   Onto our next challenge, to be led as always by our inspirational friend and colleague Davy Zyw – do we hear rumours of a target of £1,000,000...?

Last Friday evening we held our La Place de Bordeaux tasting at No.3 St James’s Street. We were joined by more than 40 leading producers from around the world, from North and South America to Australia and New Zealand and from Europe to South Africa. Charlie Geoghegan from our Content team was there on the night. He reports: “In the few moments of calm, I stood off to the side and tried to take it all in. Chatter in three, four or five languages at any one time, depending on where you look: Spanish here and French there; I even happened upon the impressive Jérôme Poisson of Caiarossa seamlessly switching between English, French and Italian. There was every conceivable English accent, too. There was laughter and lots of it. The clinking of glasses. An almost magnetic effect drawing tasters to producers, where a given table goes from empty to crowded in two seconds.” Our La Place de Bordeaux offer is ongoing. In less than a month, over 100 of our colleagues will be walking 100km to raise £100k for our charity partner, My Name'5 Doddie Foundation Foundation. We take our first steps of this great journey at dawn on Thursday 19th September, departing near the dramatic chalk cliffs of Beachy Head, East Sussex. We will then head west and inland, trekking on flint paths over rolling hills and through the beautiful landscape of the South Downs. Along the three-day hike, we’ll be visiting our English Wine producers, Rathfinny Wine Estate and Wiston Estate Winery, with the final stretch for a well earnt glass of fizz (or two) at Hambledon Vineyard. Our goal is to raise £100,000 for our charity partner My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, a charity started by the late Scottish Rugby legend Doddie Weir in 2017. Motor Neuron Disease affects one in 300 here in the UK. Half of the people diagnosed die within 24 months, a third within one year. There is currently no cure. Our dear friend and colleague, Davy Zyw Żyw was diagnosed with this evil condition in 2018. The odds are bad but there is hope. We have promising clinical drug trials running across the country, which are getting closer and closer to finding a meaningful treatment, and a cure for this life-stripping condition. The money we raise will enable My Name’5 Doddie Foundation to fund the right research to fast-track progress, and also help people with the disease live their best lives. Although our home is very much at No.3 St James’s Street, Berry Bros. & Rudd is truly a global company, with offices in Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore. Remy Osman has been working in our Singapore office for the last three years, and has seen the fine wine scene blossom again since the pandemic. On our blog this week, he recounts the joys of working with such passionate wine-lovers across Southeast Asia, and why he believes we’re in a “golden age” of fine wine. https://lnkd.in/eF9-DDwV

We love experts. Having honed our expertise in buying wines and spirits over literal centuries, we really enjoy working with other experts in their fields. Talented and skilled individuals like Nieves Barragán. Nieves is no stranger to exceptional fine dining, having worked at top London restaurants Fino and Barrafina before launching Sabor, which won a Michelin star in its very first year of operation. So we’re really excited to be partnering with her on a super special dinner on 10th September. Nieves will be curating a delicious menu (complete with jamon carver!) and will be in attendance to answer any and all of your questions. To accompany her exceptional food, you’ll enjoy a selection of wines from Spain’s most iconic producers – with three vintages of the wine known as “Spain’s First Growth,” Vega Sicilia Unico – including its revered 1970 vintage. Visit the link in the first comment to find out more and book your tickets, for what promises to be a once-in-a-lifetime evening.

We all know that gardening is great for the mind – and if you’re growing produce like vegetables and herbs, it’s great for your kitchen as well (assuming the slugs don’t get there first). But for some of us, having our own plot is still a way off. Which is why, outside our Basingstoke warehouse, we have decided to cultivate a communal garden for our colleagues. Mark Craig, our talented gardener, has helped to maintain and water the garden throughout the summer. We asked what his favourite thing about the Basingstoke garden is. “My favourite plant is the runner beans, beautiful flowers, a crazy twisty growing style, and of course lovely, delicious beans to snack on, straight from the plant.” The harvest this year is abundant and all our colleagues are encouraged to go and pick fruits and vegetables from the garden to take home. Mark is suitably chuffed with the haul this year. “It does make me proud and very happy, after all I’m learning and growing just like the plants.”
