When someone asks, “Where are you really, really from?” it sends a message that you aren't British and people can receive this as 'you don't belong here'. This seemingly innocent question can make it seem that your identity, culture, and place in society are being questioned simply because of how you look or sound. 💭 The real impact? It can make someone feel othered, unseen, and constantly reminded that they don’t fit into a narrow definition of what it means to be British. How will you ensure these kinds of phrases become a thing of the past? #MicroaggressionMonday #Inclusion #EndDiscrimination #DiversityAndInclusion

Yesterday, Adelaide captivated the students of Oasis Community Learning (Oldham) with her talk on her journey since leaving school, the importance of financial reward vs job satisfaction and building a healthy work-life balance. Adelaide also shared powerful takeaways like how to approach barriers you face in order to overcome them. As a queer Black woman and entrepreneur, Adelaide runs a business supporting neurodivergent clients, drawing on her rich background as a former NHS midwife and advocate for perinatal health and equality for LGBTQIA+ Black people. Her journey highlights how intersectionality multiplies marginalisation and the importance of culturally safe support. We're proud to have her as an associate trainer for our Be What You See consultancy! 🌟 #BeWhatYouSee #InclusionMatters #BlackHistoryMonth

His dedication to advocating for female empowerment and diverse leadership stems from his personal background as the eldest of 10 siblings and a proud father and grandfather. We're still buzzing from our collaboration with Everyday Racism UK! Don't tell the others, but our Young Persons EDI Champions programme for schools is hands-down our most exciting project we've launched this year. We dive deep into important topics like race and the many forms of racism - internalised, interpersonal, institutional, and structural at our recent Anti-Racism sessions 💭. Our goal? To reach so many young people that our adult programmes are no longer needed. Not the best business plan, but absolutely the best strategy for creating a better world. If you'd like more information on our Young Persons EDI Champions programme, please get in touch info@bewhatyousee.co.uk 💌 #AntiRacism #WhitePrivilege #EverydayRacism

🗣️ What is a Microaggression? 💬 Microaggressions are comments or actions (which are often subtle and unintentional) that reinforce stereotypes or marginalise individuals based on their identity. While they may seem harmless, they can significantly impact those who experience them. Some common examples in the workplace: ■ "Where are you really from?" - Assuming someone isn’t 'from the UK or they aren't British' because of their ethnicity ■ "You're pretty good at this for a woman." - Implying that a woman’s abilities are surprising/typically worse than other genders' abilities ■ "That's so gay." - Using sexual orientation as a negative descriptor Though often unintentional, microaggressions can make people feel unseen, invalidated, or excluded. The key to preventing them is awareness, education, and empathy. Have you encountered or witnessed a microaggression? Let’s talk about it in the comments! #MicroaggressionsMonday #MicroaggressionsMatter #EndDiscrimination #InclusionInAction #DiversityAndInclusion #EqualityMatters #RespectInTheWorkplace #BeWhatYouSee
