Every team member here gets up to two Volunteer Days each year to give back in their own way! 🌍 This week, Liz used her day to train as a Ride Leader with BikeRight, supporting safe and accessible cycling. Liz has kindly put this piece together to share her experience: "Daylight is a key factor for leisure and commute cycling around the world. Globally, March to September is the most popular period in the year for women to cycle, with a considerable dip in the winter. Women recorded nearly three times as many bike activities in July 2022 than they did in December. Globally, women are 23% less likely than men to record any type of activity pre-sunrise and 8% less likely to do so post-sunset." "These stats and other data demonstrate how much women have to change their lifestyle and the activities they do during the darker, winter months. Much of this is due to a lack of safety, perceived or otherwise." "On 9th November, cycling groups in Manchester will be coming together to reclaim the night as women and supporters will be taking a disco on wheels through the city to take up space, highlight the barriers to access and engagement and to empower and illuminate that we have right to the space." "I took my Volunteer Day to train to be a Ride Leader so I can co-lead this ride and many others that support and encourage people to get on two wheels and enjoy the freedom that it brings." Be What You See Consultancy reposted this
As we come towards the end of Black History Month, I’ve found myself doing a little bit of self-reflection… Throughout my school years, like the vast majority of us at that age, I never really questioned what I was being taught…but from memory, I think we were lucky if there was even a mention of BHM when October came around, let alone any type of event to bring awareness to, or to celebrate the contributions of black people. With this in mind, I felt the urge to express how proud I am to now be in a position with Be What You See Consultancy, where I have the opportunity to lead on the Young Persons EDI Champions programme. Through this platform, we’re able to empower young people to challenge the narrative and support them to create impactful campaigns…helping to celebrate BHM in their schools, in the way that it should be! I’ll for one be finishing BHM on a high, by hosting this week’s BWYS series careers Q&A’s with our partner schools Loreto High School, Chorlton, Oasis Academy MediaCityUK, Oasisacademyoldham and inspiring volunteer professionals Catherine Millan, Wayne Bennett, FRSA, CertRP, Dr. Rebecca Loy, Ben Osu, Adelaide Harris. Seeing representation and hearing from positive role models who ‘look like you’ will always have a huge impact on young people, and so by doing this, hopefully we’re able to have an influence on the career journey’s of some of those pupils who will be in attendance🙌🏾 #blackhistorymonth #BHM #bewhatyouseeconsultancy #BWYS #BWYSseries #EDIChampions #EDI Umaira Nauman Rizvi Sunum Bal 📷Outsauced Media

We’re thrilled to feature Dr. Rebecca Loy, Diversity and Inclusion Business Partner at National Museums Liverpool, in our Be What You See series. This week, Rebecca will be speaking at Loreto High School, Chorlton. Rebecca will be sharing her inspiring career journey, highlighting the challenges and triumphs she has encountered in the working world, and offering advice and guidance to the pupils. In this interview Rebecca shares her inspiring journey, reflecting on the critical connection between Black history and the development of the UK, and how often these contributions are erased. She emphasises the importance of representation in museums and beyond, and offers young people advice on building self-confidence and finding mentors who will support their growth. We're over halfway through our Be What You See Series! Watch this space for more powerful stories ✊🏾✨ #BlackHistoryMonth #ReclaimingNarratives #RepresentationMatters #BeWhatYouSee

When someone asks, “Where are you really, really from?” it sends a message that you aren't British and people can receive this as 'you don't belong here'. This seemingly innocent question can make it seem that your identity, culture, and place in society are being questioned simply because of how you look or sound. 💭 The real impact? It can make someone feel othered, unseen, and constantly reminded that they don’t fit into a narrow definition of what it means to be British. How will you ensure these kinds of phrases become a thing of the past? #MicroaggressionMonday #Inclusion #EndDiscrimination #DiversityAndInclusion

When you get to host Active Bystander training in this stunning venue 😍 This training empowers individuals to confidently step in and address harmful behaviours in the workplace, from microaggressions to more serious issues. It builds stronger teams, creates safer environments, and fosters a culture of accountability and inclusion. We’re excited to see the positive impact this will have on team members of our client! Get in touch today if you'd like more information on how we can help your business or organisation.

Yesterday, Adelaide captivated the students of Oasis Community Learning (Oldham) with her talk on her journey since leaving school, the importance of financial reward vs job satisfaction and building a healthy work-life balance. Adelaide also shared powerful takeaways like how to approach barriers you face in order to overcome them. As a queer Black woman and entrepreneur, Adelaide runs a business supporting neurodivergent clients, drawing on her rich background as a former NHS midwife and advocate for perinatal health and equality for LGBTQIA+ Black people. Her journey highlights how intersectionality multiplies marginalisation and the importance of culturally safe support. We're proud to have her as an associate trainer for our Be What You See consultancy! 🌟 #BeWhatYouSee #InclusionMatters #BlackHistoryMonth

Today, as part of our Be What You See series, we’re excited to have Wayne Bennett, FRSA, CertRP speaking at Oasis Community Learning (Oldham). He’ll be sharing insights on inclusive recruitment, how to ensure diversity in the workplace and finding the best people for each job. Wayne was offering students invaluable advice on the importance of positive role models that you can see yourself in. Wayne is the Founder and Director of Made4Tech Global, with nearly 30 years of experience in technology recruitment. His dedication to advocating for female empowerment and diverse leadership stems from his personal background as the eldest of 10 siblings and a proud father and grandfather. Wayne’s journey highlights the importance of diversity and inclusion in the workplace. We can’t wait for the students to be inspired by his incredible story! ✨ #BeWhatYouSee #BlackHistoryMonth #DiversityAndInclusion
