Yesterday evening, I had the privilege of attending Octopus Energy’s Equality Foundation event 🐙! On the energy generation front, it was an exciting opportunity to delve into the implications of current policies on investment strategies regarding offshore wind turbines with industry experts, especially in light of the latest AR6 outcomes—timing couldn’t have been more perfect! Moreover, I had some insightful conversations about the ins and outs of onshore wind turbines with David Omagba and had a chance to explore Octopus Energy’s unique culture with Givens Wiafe and Tomilola Jonah. A big thanks to the organisers (& Beyond Education (BE)) for an inspiring evening! I enjoyed Ashley John-Baptiste’s keynote where he highlighted how our diverse backgrounds can benefit our career trajectories. Looking forward to staying engaged with all things renewable energy, wind turbines and, decarbonisation - exciting times!

A huge thank you to Beyond Education (BE) for providing me with this incredible opportunity and to everyone at Octopus Energy for sharing your time and wisdom.

Summer RegCom Intern at IQ-EQ || Banking and International Finance Postgrad at University of Leeds || Aspiring Chartered Banker. Open to Opportunities and Advice!

Summer has flown by! It’s my last week as a Regulatory Compliance Intern at IQ-EQ and I want to take some time to reflect on the last 9 weeks. During this internship, I’ve gained invaluable insight into financial regulation, the FCA, and the crucial role compliance plays in the financial industry. From understanding complex regulatory frameworks to gaining hands-on experience with compliance processes, this journey has been incredibly rewarding, significantly deepening my knowledge and skills in this field. Here are some of my highlights: ✨𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: Learnt about the critical role of compliance and financial regulation, focusing on areas such as Sustainable Development Reporting, Senior Manager & Certification Regime, Fund Operations, and Financial Promotions. I also completed in-house training on Market Abuse, Money Laundering, and the Responsibilities of Approved Persons, equipping me with the knowledge to navigate complex regulatory environments with confidence. ✨𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭: Reviewed essential client documentation for a regulated operation, ensuring accuracy and compliance. This project required me to familiarise myself with the client’s operations and organisational structure, and collaborate closely with experienced colleagues, deepening my understanding of the compliance process. ✨𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: Reviewed and analysed key regulatory documents to create a template. This aims to help colleagues streamline the regulatory disclosures for their clients and assists in more efficient reporting. ✨𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: Reviewed and verified the information in a client’s public communications. This task required careful attention to detail, as well as careful research, and reinforced the importance of precise and clear communication. I am deeply grateful to Harry Barnes, and the entire Regulatory Compliance team for all their support and encouragement over the past two months. As well as Shah Rehman and the wider IQ-EQ family. Thank you all for your patience and for always making time to answer my questions! I also want to extend my thanks to Stephen Adeoye and Beyond Education (BE) for this opportunity and their guidance throughout. This internship has been an enlightening experience and allowed me to work alongside some of the most dedicated and knowledgeable professionals in the industry, as well as some incredible interns. Enjoy these pictures from our first week and wishing you all the best! #internship #IQEQ #RegulatoryCompliance #LearningAndDevelopment #Compliance

Reflecting on My Internship Experience at Octopus Energy Energy🌍 Recently, I concluded my internship with Octopus Energy Services where I had the privilege of working as a Sales and Install Support Intern. My role involved advising customers and selling Octopus's heat pump systems, helping them transition to cleaner, more sustainable alternatives to traditional gas boilers. Here are some key takeaways from my journey: Sales Experience 🛠️: I had the opportunity to manage a sales pipeline, converting quote-issued customers into sales by actively listening to their needs and applying the RENEW training I received. Industry Insight 🌱: I gained a deeper understanding of the energy sector through insightful talks from various divisions within the Octopus Energy Group. From learning how Octopus Energy Generation manages wind assets and energy trading to exploring Kraken a revolutionary energy tech platform that leverages advanced data and machine learning capabilities, all centred around the customer. Sales Process Analysis 📈: I conducted an in-depth analysis of the current sales process and provided recommendations to enhance conversion rates. My findings were well-received by the team, and there are plans to implement them. This project not only broadened my understanding of the sales process but also honed my presentation skills. Results 💪: Over the course of 8 weeks, I successfully converted 14 homes to heat pumps, thereby removing an impressive 16.8 tonnes of CO2 per year from the atmosphere. This achievement was made possible by the support of my mentors and collaboration with my co-intern, David Oyatunde. I am incredibly thankful to everyone at Octopus Energy Services, especially my mentor, Oreoluwa Oyegbesan, whose unwavering support guided me from start to finish. A huge thank you to the sales team— Jim Bennett, Sivvy Mikitsey, William Marshall, Charlotte Quinn, Henry Williams, Daniel Phillips, Winston Nazareth and Daniel W. —for their invaluable assistance. A special thanks to Sai Cham, Shruti S., Alex B., Suraj Bhudia,Colette Mbang and other collaborators for organising and coordinating the internship. I’m also grateful to Stephen Adeoye for sharing this opportunity with me. Lastly, I want to express my sincere gratitude to Octopus Energy for this opportunity. The knowledge and skills I have gained are truly appreciated, and I look forward to applying them as I continue my career journey 🚀.
